Why are we talking about a sensor that hasn't even come out yet? This whole thread baffles me. Seriously. We have NO IDEA what the footage even looks like. I have to imagine the LOW LIGHT on Dragon will be revolutionary. RED isn't stupid. The know where the trend in low-light is going, from the F3, FS100, Alexa, to C300. They know they can't deliver anything less than that. And given their INCREDIBLY COMPETITIVE NATURE (hello??? "Bazooka to a knife fight" remember that???)....I have to imagine DRAGON will have some truly SICK low light capabilities. It's in RED'S NATURE to fuck with the competition. I expect nothing less from them.

I love the idea of 6k, I can't wait to shoot it! I am ordering 2 more RED rockets just so I can have a more productive workflow. Those that are belly aching don't know what their talking about, I don't care what their rebuttal is either, that whole complaining thing really just isn't for me. Tech moves forward with other tech, supply and demand, it's a simple process really.

I wonder what percentage of the people who are on this thread arguing that 6K resolution is not needed have ever posted a serious project at 4K? My guess is..... very few.

If that is the point, it is extraordinarily short-sighted. Red is about 4K finishes. If certain people are only concerned with 2K finishes, why are they here arguing to keep the resolution low on a camera and sensor aimed squarely at 4K finishers?

    LOW?
4k wasn't low until last year.
    5k is low now?

If the Epic is aimed squarely at 4k finishes, then Red shouldn't have been used on the 99.9 percent of productions that didn't come up to that.

Tom there's no need to get offensive.
Your projects are brilliant, and your techniques superb.
Super high resolution is your ally.

Your projects are also highly unusual.
Most people don't buy Red's products to shoot what you shoot.
    More power to you.
Please respect that most people's needs and subjects differ from where your creative passions lie.
Also respect that DPs and directors don't normally choose mastering formats.
If people are here "arguing" for anything as pathetic as the needs of a 2k master, it's because they live in a world that requires them to be concerned about 2k masters, and rarely anything greater.
The vast majority of Epic projects are ones that will screen in the next few months, or maybe even next week.

Your viewpoint, like Terrence Mallick's, is cosmic, which is a blessing for humanity! Seriously! I'm not taking the proverbial p*%#. So is Jim's.

Please understand many people's real world needs may differ slightly, though.

Tom understands some people don't need higher resolutions but if you look at the pole started today you will see that the majority of Redusers do want 6K or higher.

Well, it's weird, because since EPIC came out, and before the smaller 6k pixels of Dragon were announced , I can't recall a single Epic user posting:

"5k just isn't enough for my super 35 sensor!! This MX is CRAP! I want and need 6k NOW!"

If they had said that, they'd have been howled at for being a whining ingrate!!!

    Today, if someone says:
    "I love my EPIC.
5k, as promised, is enough for everything I do now and into the near future, or at least the producers/clients/networks/distributors think so... I feel now that absolutely maximum available DR and low light capabilities would be great, but not bigger files... "

...they are morons or whining ingrates with no vision!?

To summarize your comment: "Red is brilliant so let's not even try to help them. Let's wait till they're done with the sensor (and its' too late) to offer any comments or suggestions" Others say basically "If you don't like it just don't buy it." I would expect more from someone whom I felt had my back, and I feel we owe Jim more too.
