So wait for an update, but if it doesn't come then I don't think there is a reason to complain about it personally.

I own both the Epic and Scarlet and happily accept the differences. If there weren't any I'd be confused.
If RED is going to brand all of its products as "PRO" than all of their products need to be enabled with PRO features.

This seems like a very valid complaint. Since all the other red models have lookaround, he expected this one to have it also. There's no real cost reason why it shouldn't. It's an oversight, probably to rush the product out the door, and it should be easy to implement if the complaint is taken seriously.

Why shouldn't he make this matter known?

Seeing how for a lookaround area you'll first need to read a larger area of the sensor and then debayer that larger area for display - thus increasing the amount of work the camera has to do - I'd expect it to not be easy to implement and can see a clear cost reason for why it hasn't been implemented.

There is no feature difference between the HDMI and HDSDI or between the Epic and Scarlet in this case. Is your HDSI mode set to CLEAN?

I had the HDSDI set to Menus, same as I have it for HDMI now. I tried reboots, factory default reset, and firmware reinstalls, nothing gave me the tools out of the SDI. When I called Red support, the techs eventually told me you could not get them to come out the sdi, only hdmi, which worked.

It appears as though I was incorrect about the differences between HDMI and HDSDI. The HDSDI feed is intended to be "clean" - not allowing false color and exposure check. This should probably be documented better.

That being said, there is still no difference between the Epic and Scarlet in this regard. Sorry for adding to the confusing.

I would just like to echo Tanner's requests for exposure tools on SDI. My primary on camera monitor is an SDI SmallHD DP6, which takes the signal fine. It would just be nice to get false color etc. out of SDI as it is a much safer and more secure connection to be using BNCs on set rather than HDMI connectors.
    Thanks,

Hey Brent, any chance this will be a fixed issue in an upcoming update? Also having horrible connection between camera and REDmote. After being connected for about 15 minutes and working well it goes into IDLE mode and it won't come out.

    Agree,
If you like the features of a red one, you could probably rent it for about the same price. Red one is bigger, start up slower and has it's own set of issues but also benefits. Scarlet on the other hand is almost half the price and assembled to be as low priced as possible. So I think is logic to rent / use the camera you prefer instead of using one and wishing for another especially when they rent would be about the same price....

This is definitely partly a case of a 1st AC having a tough time for not being able to make a cheaper camera work like a more expensive camera... Which is a bit hard to pin on RED.

Scarlet is NOT Red ONE but better, cheaper and smaller. Even Epic is NOT Red One but better smaller and cheaper. Each are cameras with advantages/disadvantages, and technical capabilities of their own.

Tanner - you are right in that the tools you need on the Scarlet aren't present like they are on the RED ONE, maybe some can be implemented by RED (which would be awesome) maybe some can't (which is likely) - but can't blame RED for it being a step backwards - the Scarlet is targeted at a slightly different market to the RED ONE, if production organized a Scarlet when you really needed a RED ONE that's productions fault, not the manufacturers. Lots of tools in comparable price ranges don't provide full exposure tools out the SDI.

Could you get production to rent a HDMI to SDI converter and strap it to the back of the scarlet so you can use the HDMI out and still get what you want? Presumably that will solve your problem?

Redmotes being flaky is a problem for RED certainly though.
