Ali, you should rent the camera from a local owner operator, they will know what to do. And you can learn from them : )

    Ali,

RED cameras only shoot RAW, and everything other than framerate, shutter and IRIS, everything else is just metadata that can be dialed up in post. This takes bit of pressure off committing to the look in camera. Spend your time getting the lighting as good as you can.

Evenly lit chromakey screen, interesting look on your performer with no spill from the screen.

Would take too much time to educate you on how to use the camera. Listen to Ian and rent from someone willing to help you sort it out.

    Alli,

Well you made the first choice right by choosing RED, especially when shooting a green/blue screen where all the resolution will help make your picture look more believable. Like jimhare said, there is a lot to learn, more than one could teach over a forum.

    Good luck mate

Any reason you are renting a R1 instead of an Epic?

If you shoot R1 give the camera lots of light- that goes for epic too, especially R1 if you want to keep the green clean. Yes you want to "shoot flat" but that doesn't really mean much in the red Raw world. Generally what you really want to do is look at your histogram and make sure your height is in the middle and stretches almost to the edges. Also double check to make sure you aren't peaking and your noise levels are low. Download the manual and become familiar with it. Then rent the camera for an extra day or two and become familiar with it before you shoot.

I have a green cyc stage , and I use red giant primatte Keyer pro . Awesome and simple to use. Has a built in spill killer. Works great

Good point chad- an actual chroma test with a lighting setup and a post key test would be good idea. Especially if this is his first time shooting red with chroma key.

If the RED One has been upgraded to MX there won't be any difference in light sensitivity between it and an Epic. The Epic has 5k and higher frame rates but for green or blue screen you won't have any difference with MX on both cameras.

Actually there are differences as the advanced electronics in the Epic does a better job of getting the most from the sensor. Having said that may not make a huge difference on screen.
