SO excited for the total eclipse this Sunday! Wanted to start a thread to state best methods of capture, and information on lenses, filters, etc. SO any thoughts? The eclipse will be this Sunday at 6:21pm in Vegas, and different according to location.

Get any Astro lens about 500-800 mm and DIY old school "smoked glass" filter :) Or try to find super strong ND

Good luck shooting the eclipse Chris!

It's not going to be a "total" eclipse by definition, but more specifically an "annular" eclipse. Either way, you'll be getting a much more complete eclipse than I will here in St. Louis.
Still, I may attempt to shoot it as well.

Dmitry, what is the process for making a smoked glass filter, out of curiosity?

I rented an 800mm Canon lens and a 1.4 tele-extender. But I hope to capture my most dramatic shots with a 15mm Zeiss prime. This will be my 2nd annular eclipse and I learned from experience if you use a well placed 1.4 ND grad for your wide angle shots, you can get some well exposed landscapes and still catpure the suns ring. This wclispe is coming fairly late in the day and will end just about suset whihc is gift from Ra ;) Try to avoid stacking filters or you run the risk of ending up with a bunch or dirty flares. This eclispe will make a line drive right over us lucky enough to be in the southwest so it is all about location. Location. Location!
