What do you guys think is the cheapest media for the Red One? I'm using a Red One MX with SSD upgrade, and was wondering what the least expensive media storage I can get is.

RED drives
You can buy my R1 320GB RED drive, we use SSD now with the epic and it's been on the self, very minimal use, 50 hours use, if that.
Yep, these days you can get used RED drives for as little as $250, providing hours of recording time.
By the time these babies stop working, there'll likely be cheaper SSD options.
I think that RED Drives and SSD cards make the perfect media combo for R1. RED Drives are cheap and plentiful in the used market. They allow you to record for very long periods of time (linterviews, live events, sports, nature footage) without having to change cards or dump media frequently. There is no question that they are the best bargain in terms of record time vs. cost. They have proven to be very reliable, although they are still spinning hard drives...you do have to treat them gently. Their big drawbacks are size and weight.
That's where the SSD's come in. If you are using your R1 handheld or in a minimalist run-n-gun configuration, then SSD's help make the whole package a lot lighter and more manageable. Best of both worlds...
I have a 320, a 640 and the drive cable for sale. PM Me.
Define cheap? SSD is by far the SAFEST> if you lose a days shooting because your RED DRIVE skipped... dropped frames, etc... wouldn't that cost a lot more
than the cost of an SSD?
Find another area to skimp is my advice. all of the hard work of every shoot ends up on one recording media... I just can't fathom trading security over price here.
Depends what you are shooting. If it's on the move type stuff, shoulder mounted, steadicam, crane/jib or handled, get SSD for sure. If it's a bunch of static shots, tripod mounted, spinning media will save you money.
I'm saving up for the 512gb SSD. I wouldn't mess around with RED DRIVES.
