We ordered one new mac pro right at the end of 2011 and it came pre-installed w/ lion. We are having weird problems with compressor throwing errors that are resolved after a restart, but are reoccurring. Some problems with cs 5.5 after effects having issues rendering when a project has lots of footage from a network (which renders fine when we open the project on a snow leopard installation). So some oddities, but it's hard to say if it's just isolated because we only have one machine at the moment on lion.
We are downgrading to snow leopard on that one machine until we can upgrade everything at once.

I've been using Lion since last August and I haven't had any issues with CS5.5, Final Cut Studio or Red Cine X. Resolve Lite had some weird issue with database creation but they released an update that fixed it.

Overall I think Lion has been a great upgrade from Snow Leopard.

For the '09 and '10 Mac Pro, be sure you're running 10.7.3! Which is the current release as of this posting. For '08 and earlier towers, best to stick with Snow Leopard, IMO.

Joe's issues don't seem to be anything Lion specific, but there's definitely something up with his configuration or that particular Lion installation. Without more info, it's hard to say what it could be. Some hardware still has issues with Lion drivers playing nice. This shouldn't be the case, but the oddball eSATA or SCSI card can still make a system act up under Lion. At least that's been my findings. My CalDigit and ATTO cards treat me well. Sonnet was having Lion issues there for a bit, but I believe they have those resolved now since 10.7.3 hit the scene.

+1 for 10.7.3. I had some serious hardware issues with earlier Lion, never really tracked it down either. The updates seem to have fixed it up. Affected NVIDIA GPU's, a RAID controller card, eSATA Express cards. Something to do with PCIe bus funky weirdness. This was present on several different machines. I can comfortably recommend Lion now in the 10.7.3 flavor but be ready for all the usual stuff related to an upgrade.

Yeah *shrugs* that lion workstation is a totally stock from apple no other hardware additions, very basic right now with FCP Studio 3 and CS5.5 among other little apps. Gave us weird permissions problems the first day installing Final Cut. Nothing a reformat won't usually fix
