    Hi Everyone.

I'm just debating what aspect to shoot a new project on. I really want to shot all my stuff at 5k WS. One because it looks really nice in a wide aspect (Africa) and two because some of it may end up in features. I also want to save a bit of card space/ or shoot a lower compression. My final delivery for now is 1080p.

I'm editing in Avid, and colour correcting in Davinci. At some point I'll do a centre cut for 1080p. Does anyone have a proven workflow for this that they want to share?

    Thanks

I would not do a center-cut, assuming you're framing for 2.40. You still careful, diligent, artistic pan/scan for full-frame 16x9 delivery. Sometimes, this specific decisions to avoid cutting off somebody's nose or missing an important detail on an extreme edge of the frame.

but deter cut where? Do you do this in RCX? I wanted to edit in a 1080p proxy and colour from a 4k r3d and the get it back into avid. Centre cutting a 1080p film masked for 2:40:1 is a bad idea.

In Resolve, set output blanking to 2:40:1, and in the render window select 1920x1080p as the resolution and render it out. You will then have a 1080p 2:40:1 video....

you dont really want to center cut/mask until the very last step in case you need to reframe, stabilize, etc...

I shoot 2:1 for 2.40 aspect ratio. A little more data but you Get look around and the ease to do a 1:1.85 for à 16/9 mater. If you can frame for both.
