Hi, Im looking at getting a Scarlet, but I want to get a shlouldermount (for mattebox, follow focus, etc). I would like to get this one (http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalo...derMountDeluxe), But then i saw some video reviews saying that the lens is mounted too high so the mattebox and follow focus wont match the same height as the lens?
Is this true? Do i just need the right baseplate (http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalo...port-Bundles)? Im very confused at the moment, and dont know what to do...
What do i need to be able to use a mattebox, follow focus with this shoulder mount for the Scarlet???

    The MB is here: http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalo...-Deluxe-Bundle

the FF is just a normal size i currently use with my xha1 35mm adapter rig.

    Thanks,
    Timothy

yep the lens will be to high. on this page you can see what you could get, but mostly pictures of where the right spacing of the 15mm lws should be: http://www.innocinema.com/product_in...roducts_id=159 So if you just attach shorts bars to something like this, there's no problem.

    Hi Timothy welcome .

There are numerous post on the Redrock Mattebox suitability for Scarlet/Epic.

I have owned a Redrock MB & sold it for the shoot 35. For similar dollars it would pay also to checkout O'Connor "O Box".

I haven't owned a RR Shoulder pad or rig so can't comment on suitability. Their new FF unit looks interesting though.

    Timothy,

Max is correct. The lens mount height on the Red cameras are higher then traditional cameras, so this actually requires the rails to be raised so high that they can not in fact travel through the camera itself. That's why often you will see people with two sets of 15mm rails, as I believe Max was alluding to.

Our microMatteBox is a great full sized studio matte box, with expandable filter trays, a swing away arm, and the ability to support filters as large as 5.65 square. As long as you establish a set of rails that is at the correct height for your Scarlet, all of our accessories (matte box, microFollowFocus | Blue, ect) will align correctly.

    Cheers,

Get the OConnor O-Box... you'll find yourself wishing you had gotten something other than the bulky, heavy, massive, plasticy and poorly-designed Redrock mattebox.

    Hi Timothy,

I'm very happy with Redrock. i use this setup as a shoulderrig.
in just a few hand movements its ready for a tripod, dolly etc...

the modularity is a beneficial, is balanced and lightweight.

    Tim,

We have the RR setup on one of our SX. Its perfectly fine. I concur that the lens is higher, but you can use the shim kit that comes with the Base Plate, just like Sergio's setup. There are other options out there, like the o box. But if you like RR & have a budget to meet, its a good option. Unless you're projects involves shooting while on a trampoline or inside the car of a Gymkata shoot, the construction of the RR MB is perfectly fine.

I'll upload some picks of all 3 set ups for you. We have the counter balance for the Shoulder rig on another cam, so you'll see that missing.

    Post soon.

    Sergio & Marq,

    Good looking setups guys!

    Timothy,
You could do the modification that Sergio has done, and you create a similiar quick release setup as the Red baseplates. That would be comprised of a microSupportBaseplate (Low Riser) and an additional shim kit.

Wow thanks for the help guys! i didnt realize there was so much support out here. I really like Sergio's idea where he used the shim kit, i'd like to see what Marq has. With Sergio's idea, what is he actually using? I cannot find a product on the redrock site that has 2 15mm rail inputs as he has in the picture (one for the MB and FF then one that attaches onto the actual shoulder mount). The only way i can think of doing it is if i:
    1. get this: http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalo...-microMatteBox AKA: 15mm low riser with short rails
    2. Shim up the rail inputs with the shim kit
    3. Attach (some how) to another baseplate on the rig shoulder mount. Does the 15mm low riser have a screw hole in the bottom for a tripod or something?
This would be so much easier: http://www.innocinema.com/product_in...roducts_id=159 but its getting expensive after buying a riserblock.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Loren - I'm very rig-challenged and posted a thread on the Accessories forum, listing your follow focus as one of the products I'd like to use.

But, for someone like me who's never put together a rig, it's a bit confusing.

Any chance of a video that would explain rigs-for-dummies? I'm after all the little hidden gotcha's that I need to watch out for, as mixing equipment from different vendors is probably the reality.

Something at a very low level, a rank beginner level?
