  1. #1 Final Cut 4.5k Workflow
    Hello,

I'm having to edit a short film shot on a RED but I'm having some problems I was hoping someone could help me with.

The entire footage was shot 4.5k, but when I load the footage (Log and Transfer : Native) the unlimited RT option in unavailable. After some research I found that I could use REDCODE as sequence setting but this makes dissolves unrendered and generally makes FCP unstable. I found the link http://www.esperimentocinema.com/jou...-workflow.html useful, but I think its slightly outdated as clipfinder is no longer available.

Could someone recommend the best possible workflow to get the 4.5k RAW footage edited in Final Cut (with the option of going onto grade in Color)?

I am running Final Cut 6 (missed the upgrade to 7 and not inclined to move to FCX).

    Cheers,

If memory serves me correctly, I don't believe FCP 6 supports a 4K timeline. You're best bet would be to use Premier Pro CS 5.5, or pay the $300 to switch to FCPX and transcode the RED footage.

Thanks Chris, but do you mean a 4.5k timeline? Also, with FCPX is it possible to grade with color? Cheers,

Why not edit in FCP with proxies? If you're going to Color you can export an XML from FCP and relink to the RAW-files with Redcine-X Pro.

Premere CS5.5 would save a world of trouble...

Free fully functional one-month trial too, so you don't need to spend a penny to try it.
