The name of this camera is epic hd, it's interesting as an action camera, very different from our RED cameras,
    but my question is:
can they use the EPIC brand?

It says Epic on it, and it's a HD camera. Probably not. Sounds like they are capitalizing off RED instead of coming up with something unique to call it. RED would have a good case against them.

    Jarred! Lawyers!

No actual danger of real confusion of course, but waaaaay too close - and still disrespectful and taking the piss IMHO.

I stopped by their booth. There was already somebody there telling them that they shouldn't steal the name of the Red camera. I made it clear I agreed with the other dude.

Copycats. How is it better than Hero2? Looks like they copied the Hero cam packaging, too. Epic? I don't think so. Book 'em, Dano!

While at the booth they gave me a lame joke and hard time when they saw my 4K red shirt.

Totally rubbed the wrong way by those guys.

No confusion to you or me, Mike, but you know there are a lot of people out there (some might even be producers) who would be confused and mislead by this. This is infringement that at the very least is very close to fraud. Even the "font" is too close.

Seems like it might be a cool little camera, but it needs to be renamed and re-branded.

(otoh, I could offer a 2 Epic package at an incredible price! Hmmmm.)

And how does anyone know if Epic HD wasn't using that name before Red Digital?

A quick USPTO.gov trademark search shows that Epic HD does own a trademark.
