I find that my post steps are exactly the same... I can do 4x3 SD with a Betacam, 16x9 HD with my 170 or 4k with my Scarlet... it's the same steps: ingest, edit, correct, finish and export.

and I don't need a rocket card as premiere handles the 4k footage awesomely!

Battery belt always holds the danger of walking away from the camera while still plugged in. You can get fairly large V-lock batteries that will last a couple of hours, that you can have at the end of the camera, or as a counter balance on a shoulder rig. In this age I don't really see the point of battery belts any more - but that is just me ;)

Don't know what the warranty situation is, but the only way a battery could damage the camera was by supplying too much voltage. If you buy from a reputable battery vendor, you should be fine. Your call in the end. Lots of redusers use 3rd party batteries, others are very happy with their RED products.

    * EDIT too slow :) Some of this has now been covered.

We have been advised the additional frame rates are coming soon. Scarlet is by far the wiser long term choice and is a considerably more powerful camera in the here and now and will only get more and more powerful. It's future proof. If low light is critical the C300 is superior until the new sensor upgrade - but Scarlet still produces great low light work in any case. If you want the package, I would say 18K to combine with a V mount solution and some extra media is a more workable. Also your workflow has to be considered? If you use Adobe suite it's all good.

However if you are focused on bringing cost down, and would like longer power times, then you actually don't need a side handle or Redvolts via the package approach at all, and that money would be better spent on a Vmount solution and an extra media card and can keep you under 17K - but with twice as much media and about 5 times the battery power (if you buy 2 x 160W V mounts)

    Best

Also, there's no price difference between ordering the basic camera package and buying each item separately, so if you wanted to customize your order (i.e. replace the single 64GB SSD with the 4-pack), you could do that as well.

I would also add that you should only buy either camera if you have a sound business model and you plan to make money from them.

Ok guys couldn't I just get the SCARLET itself and hook it up to a AJA KI PRO MINI bypassing all the media? Just trying to not exceed my budget too much. Thanks in advance.

    RAW RAW RAW.

When comparing cameras, this is often the last thing people mention when giving advice and it should be the first.
Thats the reason I shoot R3D at least.
    The second reason is DR.
Thats all the reason you need to buy a Scarlet, even if resolution doesn't matter to you, though it should.
Just like all those awesome SD reels are worthless now, 1080p reels will be worthless in a few years.

Future proof, RAW, DR. If you ad Ki Pro, you are all set for quick turnaround too. C300 is just no contest other than maybe low light.

    My 2¢.

You're trying too hard to make the scarlet something that's its not. If all you want is 1080 and no Raw workflow, I don't think the scarlet is for you. RED has amazing resolution and dynamic range. Why not use it? If you really want a scarlet and you don't have the budget, wait a bit and pick up a used package.

It reminds me of "The Incredibles" never use capes... Never use battery belts for that reason, I worry about other people's clumsiness (mine) :o).

    Bob,
thank you and I'm only trying to "squeeze" now. In my mind I'm figuring the SCARLET with the Canon mount, batteries and an AJA KI PRO MINI, then I should be good to go correct?
