Wish my Master Primes didn't have Arri logos on them... Guess I'll cover them up. Just don't want to be reminded of this. Sad. But very happy that there is Red.
Yeah. Like I said before I worked with Michael Bravin on a huge purchase for the company I was a operations manager at. I liked the guy back then, for the life of me I can't figure out why he would do it beyond what been proposed.
But yeah, sad on all sides.
Still think it's important news, if nothing more as a reminder of what RED faces, and will continue to face.
Recap of the story please
What kind of information was there that Arri could have been interested in?
It's easy to look at and think "well were there any hard trade secrets i.e., blue prints, software code etc., that were grabbed?"
If not, then people dismiss it as no harm no foul.
The problem with that is that it totally negates the fact that strategic relationships, undisclosed product timetables etc.
can definitively hurt a company's bottom line.
It gives direction to a competitor of where you are headed, this can really be a PR nightmare when you lose control of
release dates etc.
Court wise it can be tricky when proving damages because it becomes very subjective and technically tough to prove.
But this is different I feel, there seems to be a lot more moving parts, beyond RED.
To answer your question, I would guess strategic relationships between Band Pro and RED and possibly other companies. Release of undisclosed products and possible surprise functions. Again not blue prints and schematics, but still very damaging and goldmine to a competitor.
But as always this stuff I propose is all basic hypothetical's when I look at the information so far.
These:

aka the best lenses on the planet.
Yeah, this is why I think it's more then just RED.
Bravin (and ARRI if all connections are proven) basically kicked over a hornets nest, scratch that... a couple of hornets nests.
Internal Timelines, strategic relationships, surprise products and product functions etc.....
......are intellectual property to be defended and defended vigorously.
In todays economic climate you can't misstep or look like you won't defend your image.
