Maybe they should just call it the Playstation 4K.

I wonder if this system will have discs, or be filed based? Or maybe a combo of those two things. I would not be surprised if this was also a vehicle for 4K content knowing Sony.

Technically capable and actually used are two different things entirely. I would bet $200 that the vast majority if not all AAA titles for PS4 will be in 1080p. Most 360 titles aren't even in 720p even though it can output HD. Better to put your render budget into lighting and shaders than resolution.

Carmack said 120 FPS is required for good stereo 3D gameplay.

This makes sense. The next big push in HDTVs will be 4K, and the Playstation brand since the Playstation 2 has been a major tool to push Sony's other formats and vision for the home. I think we will see, in the PS4, actually some AAA games done in 4K. One very good move Sony did, for example, was to purchase AAA publishers and turn them first party. My bet is that we will see some sort of Uncharted in 4K and also a Heavy Rain sort of game, just to showcase the potential of both 4K gaming and entertainment. I wouldn't be surprised if the rumored Blu-ray drive of the PS4 is already 4K content compliant. What this means is that there will be probably a big boom of 4K Content request from not only Movie productions but multimedia platforms. The ferocious tablet resolution race might also boost this, with clients demanding sharper and better looking content to take use of the capabilities of these devices... Great times to be a Red owner, indeed!
