So I shot with the Red 17-50 and it's a really badass lens, love it. However it's painful to use to say the least.

I do a lot of handheld and am used to pulling quick focus on a bare lens and snapzooming. When all you have to grab is the geared teeth it really rips up your fingers fast. I really with Red lenses had a nice rubber strip running along side the gears, would really make these lenses perfect. I also snapzoomed my iris closed a couple times lol!.

I had a follow focus on there initially, but it just isn't practical in all situations. When you go from on your shoulder to under your arm several times over the course of a shoot, it's much easier with just using the lens.

This was a rap concert btw. Run and gun in the pit in front of the stage shooting up almost the entire time.

Would be neat if someone made an adapter that you could wrap around your lenses for handheld work. Like little rubber grips that go over the gears.

Other than that, the lens rocks and I'm totally considering one now. Though I think I'll wait until after NAB.

When I use the 17-50 this way I just run some camera tape round the gears a couple of wraps. Nice and grippy and softens the teeth. There's nothing you can't fix with the right kind of sticky tape :)

Why don´t they make it with a zoom stick? Its terrible to do fast zooming with it.

I slipped a rubber band around the gear and now its easy on the fingers and stays put pretty well.

Had a company making cine accessories put a delrin ring tightening with a screw so as not to damage zoom teeth. Threaded for zoom bar.http://www.reduser.net/forum/attachm...1&d=1332698334
