Don't know if anyone else has had this problem (or if this is the right thread) but during a quick mag change an AC accidentally hit the media format button instead of the media eject button, losing 5 or so shots (which we recovered luckily) , but I think it would probably be pretty easy to put the touchscreen buttons on opposit sides of the 'media' sub-menu. I know you have to 'ok' the format, but why not just take out the possibility of hitting the wrong button with a fat finger or soemthing

if you press button 1/2 on the brain the media gets ejected. no need to go into the menus.

Thanks you, I do know his now, but why even have the possibility with the touchscreen menu buttons so close to each other. I know there are other ways to do it, but to me that's like having the record button format the card if you half push it.

The bottom right button on rear of the side handle "D", comes from Red programmed to eject media as well. But good thing to point out about the LCD control. Is there a warning screen that pops up asking you again when you hit the format button? I can't recall, if there isn't, thats something that should be implemented for sure.

I noticed this recently too. Luckily I never hit the wrong button, but boy they are close together in the touch screen....

RED UnDead would quickly become your friend… The following is not from the same type of situation but it may help dissolve some of the fear.

I leant a card to another shooter here in Toronto - He Formatted a card by mistake and returned it to me; then he emailed in a panic that the card still had parts of his shoot on it. I ran RED UnDead and recovered not only his clips, but also clips for previous jobs that had been 'Formatted over' several times yet not overwritten with new clips.

A very forgiving system if you make a tragic mistake.

And yeah - I pretty much only use the buttons on the brain to eject.

When you push the format button, it still has you enter/confirm reel number and camera label.... It's not like you accidentally tap format and everything goes poof.

Take the time and configure your user buttons so you don't have to futz around with the menus for things like this. Default eject is buttons 1&2 as has been pointed out.

I also thought about it. Hard night of work could make a big mess...

    I use the brain buttons.

On the media dialog if you hit the "Format..." button it simply brings up a format dialog (the ... in the label should be your clue that another dialog will appear). You then have to hit a "Format" button in the second dialog to actually format the media. The format dialog also shows (in red text) if there are any clips on the SSD.

So, it is not really possible to accidentally format an SSD when trying to eject. You would have to accidentally hit the "Format..." button and then accidentally hit a second "Format" button. If we add ANOTHER confirmation dialog then I have no reason to believe the person who hits "Format..." and "Format" instead of "Eject" won't also hit "Format...", "Format", and "Yes" instead.

That being said, we are looking at how to make this less scary without requiring too many steps to simply format your media.

Smaller buttons that don't take the whole screen width?
