On December 17th I received an email with the subject "Long Shot Question" which, in summary, asked if I was willing and able to fly to rural Kenya on the 24th to shoot a documentary about the "eunoto"; the Maasai warrior coming-of-age ceremony. What else could I say but 'yes'?
I packed up my Epic, a RED 18-55 zoom generously on loan from OffHollywood, and my anti-malarial pills and off I went. We shot from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day and, I hope, captured this beautiful and vanishing cultural moment which happens only once every seven years or so.
I've pulled 31 stills from my Epic footage and posted them to a set on my flickr account here. I hope you enjoy them.
We, the team, are not yet sure exactly what will become of this once our editor does his magic. It may be a short, it may be a network hour, it may be a feature. But I'll keep you all posted. And I have some great shots of Maasai warriors with the Epic that I'll be emailing to Ted once I get them.
Happy 2013, everyone.
