While waiting for my Rouge 30-80 to come it, I have been using this wonderful little lens on my EF mount cine cameras, because it has iris control, and the focus and iris direction is the correct one for filming. (iris declicked by Duclos)

Great lens for the price.

Is this lens parafocal and hold focus through the zoom range.

Well, its more parafocal than some. It's hard for me to tell, because some lenses that claim to be parafocal (like the red 17-50, that when i sent back to red they said it was "within their specs", or a 20-100 cooke that had just returned from service), weren't on my F3. i think there is an adjustment on the camera to fix that, i just refocused when i zoomed.

This lens is not perfect, it ramps and it flares easily (as the red 17-50 does). To me the great thing about this lens is that you have clickless iris control, and the zoom, focus, and iris are all the correct direction for cinema. no other lens at this price point is.

The only lens that probably comes close is the Zeiss Contax 35-70 3.3, considered by many still lens enthusiasts to be one of the best zooms ever made.

I have the Zeiss 28-85 3.3-4 and man, it's a gorgeous lens. Very little distortion and incredibly sharp throughout. Considering this, the softer French equivalent, but my Zeiss was $400... declicked, focuses the right way and all... could you point us to some footage?

yeah, that sounds like a great lens. i don't like that the zoom is a pool (one touch), it's impossible to use with a matte box. and yes, my lens is probably less sharp than the zeiss (zeiss is usually sharper, angeneiux has more character).

i wish i could get you some footage, but i would not even know how to post that in here. plus i have packed the lens already. if for some reason, when i have more free time in a couple of weeks, it hasn't sold yet, i will try at it. sorry..
