    Hello, everyone.
    Sorry for being late introducing myself.
    I'm about to produce & direct a movie with HD late this year.
    I'm going to POST with Mac based equipment, and I've been interested with the Red and the people around here.
    Please lep me know whethere I should go forward with the Mac system( I mean Mac Pro with FCP & Shake & so forth with 2K equipments) or I should think about other system if I really long for the day I see "The Red One?"
    What's the big deal with FCP if I wait shooting with "The Red One?"
    Please, help me out... and Have a good year to you all.

    No problem editing RED footage with FCP up to the maximum resolution that FCP supports. This is because our REDCINE software can convert RED 4K or 2K RAW footage into a video format that your FCP does support - for example 720p DVCPRO HD.

    If you want to create a finished product at 4K resolution, there are some 4K uncompressed finishing systems already in the market, so we'd recommend you do a lower resolution off-line edit followed by a 4K on-line at a post house. To aid this, RECINE has a concept called RED PULL LIST that takes your off-line EDL and pulls only the clips required for the 4K finish.

    If possible, you should wait until after Macworld San Francisco in a few days to order the Mac Pro. Rumor has it that 8-core Macs may be showing up there...

    And I agree with the whole offline-online thing. I don't get why people are so hung up about editing in full 4K resolution. Just edit in 720p or even 480p and have a system that screams and tons of storage available. Then do the final online someplace that has the equipment and expertise to deal with 4K RAW footage. The process will be faster, less expensive, and probably look better than trying to finish 4K at home.

    My advice would be to hold of buying a computer system for editing RED based footage until you are closer to taking delivery (or using) your RED ONE and more is known on which systems work well and so on.

    The other advantage is that you'll get more computer for your money in a couple of months. I only see win-win unless you need a system now, of course.

    besides FCP , are there any 4K NLE or DI systems can support REDCODE and REDCINE ?

    In ASIA you know, BIG BOYS with their own gears in doing 4K to anything.

    Any system that can properly ingest QuickTime or whatever file format REDCINE can export (like DPX/Cineon sequences)

    If you have some $$$ you could build a Windows 2003 8-16 core workstation right now with off the shelf hardware. Just grab one a dual proc motherboard and plug in two QX6800s.

    But I agree, you might as well wait until you're ready to start editing since in 6 months prices will drop significantly. Especially once AMD puts on the 4 core pressure.

    Ahhh, just like a drink of cold water to a desert-parched soul...this sounds like the early days of non-linear editing of the good ol' film projects. This just gets better and better sounding. :)

    I'm going to keep dedicated to FCP until Apple gives me a reaosn not to. To me, the system just feels right.
    I know how to do it. You just wouldn't know it from the way I do it.
