I heard somewhere that the Dragon sensor "is the shit" :) Regardless of speculation, I'm sure I will be blown away with the spec once its released. Its a sensor coming from those guys that didn't know better and introduced a 4K S35 cinema camera for 17.5K with variable frame rates 5 years ago... What was happening then in the market? 720p60p with 2/3 ccd's for 40K ?Or 1440x1080 "full hd" 2/3rds CCD "digital cinema" cameras for 50K?
yes, but DSMC is supposed to include Stills, and the Nikon D800 just upped the game for every pro stills photographer. If Red still want to corner some of that pro stills market, 14MP isn't going to be enough. It's already not enough for Corbis and has not been for some time.
is the RED ONE ever gonna get another sensor upgrade ? is Dragon going to be compatible ?
The ONE did already get a sensor upgrade. The one to MX. But the Dragon is a different beast. So until now RED ONE is not going to be in the upgrade path and I'm sure it won't be changing in the future. RED offered the upgrade from the RED ONE to EPIC so the claim "obsolescence obsolete" would hold true! It just doesn't make sense to keep on pushing these upgrades into the ONE since EPIC is alive. I don't know right now where the post is, where Jim or Jarred mentioned that the RED ONE is not going to get anymore upgrades, but I'm sure they will stick with it.
That said, everything concerning RED is subject to change. ;)
There are a lot of Red Ones out there. A lot of those Ones would definitely be converted to Dragon if it were possible. That's reason enough to think that it might well come to pass.
Here's to hoping, at least.

Yeah, but people keep saying that there was a post by Jim that said people will regret or be disappointed selling their R1s; like something upcoming was going to change their minds. If anyone knows where that post is could they link it plz? :D Or if Jim or Jarred could confirm the other statement about R1 def not being upgradeable any further, that would give some clarity about the future of the R1.
For me it's a money thing. I bought a R1MX package a couple of months before the big Scarlet announcement, based on the fact that I didn't want a 2/3 chip or different smaller lenses. It's already made me sad enough that I spent so much on something I could have got in such a smaller form factor, with the future possibility of a dragon upgrade, for less, brand new.
