Pretty well as it says. Keen for a bigger stills file!

Last I've heard is they are still planning on making the formats listed in the original DSMC announcement: http://camerarentalz.com/red-sensor-formats/

    6k FF35, 9k 645 Medium Format and 28k 617 Large Format.

I've been thinking the same thing lately, since seeing that the sony f65 has an 8k sensor (although outputting 4k). I'm guessing RED wouldn't want to feel like they're lagging behind at all, so I've been wondering if we'll hear an announcement on sensor size possibly at NAB in April. If Sony's sensor is 8k in size, is there the possibility of a firmware upgrade at (what would seem like to us), a moments notice, and suddenly they have a camera capable of recording 8k footage? If that's possible (and given that RED like leading the way in the resolution race), Dragon would have to be like, 8.5k or higher on release right?

I know if I was RED I'd want to have a 10k sensor that outputs something like 6k, and has the future possibility of shooting 8k and higher. That way they're affirmatively back in the lead. No grey area.

*fingers crossed* that the Dragon upgrade this summer increases sensor size for all cameras upgraded.... at least to 4:3 5k.

How would the Scarlet ever handle a sensor upgrade in size w/o a major processing upgrade?

I think I would rather keep the smaller sensor and go up on frame rate anyway...

If you want bigger stills why not get a Canon?

This is not a race..... I would hope that RED creates the next evolution for a Super 35 size sensor that has greater dynamic range and sensitivity. Two things that run inverse to resolution.

A full frame sensor (Vista Vision) would be cool but really then where are we with lenses? (pro cinema, not still glass)

Any rush to market is silly.

I was so interested in that full frame sensor, but now I think just improving on their 5K sensor in the present size is the smart thing to do.

    IMHO
