With the prices of used Red Ones falling to very attractive prices, I'm trying to see if there are any RED-approved Canon mounts. Are there any out there, especially dumb ones like the RED Nikon mount?

There are no approved Canon mounts for the R1.

What difference does it make if the mounts are RED-approved if the camera is out of warranty? Just buy the mount you want with the recognition that, if something untoward occurs, you'll be on the hook for the repairs yourself. (If your camera is still under warranty, that's a different matter.)

Sure, there are always horror stories out there about this and that, but what are the odds? As for us, we love the Birger/Impero combination on the One, but it obviously isn't for everyone or every shooting situation.

    Good luck.

I don't think the smart Wicked Circuits mount was ever released. I'm doubtful if even the dumb version is still available, either. Nor can I imagine anything less helpful. You have to change aperture by mounting the lens on a Canon camera, then remove the lens from that camera and then mount it again on your RED. Yes, it works. . . sort of. . . but no one would ever want to do so.
