I'm sure I've seen a picture of the inside of a pro-x plate in here before, just can't remember where...Here's what I found when I opened mine:

I don't like where that magnet is sitting.

Try a little experiment. Pop the magnet off, center it and move it a bit closer to the release spring. Hold it there with your finger, and then start the camera. Don't start the camera until you firmly have your finger pressed down over the magnet. Let the camera boot up and see if you get a percentage reading. If not, its most likely "dodgy soldering" as you've already indicated. If that's the case, try this--
    1) Put the battery plate inside a cardboard box.
    2) ship it back to where you got it
    3) Buy this one that works. http://www.cinemaoxide.com/oxide-battery-plate.php

To all considering buying from Globalmediapro for batteries. Here's my situation. I needed some long life batteries for an upcoming project with our Scarlet-X. I ordered from Globalmediapro on 4/3/12 and, against my better judgement, made the wire transfer. They then notified my that my order would not ship until April 13. Well this would not allow us to have them in time, so I immediately asked them to cancel the order via email. Got no reply. Then I sent another email asking them to cancel the order. Still no reply. Then I got an email saying the order shipped yesterday on 4/6/12.

This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE and UNFAIR business practices and shows a lack of regard for the customer. Also, if you read in their legalize fine-print, they will not give refunds at all, but rather store credit. They apparently do not stock any product at all, but rather direct ship from the China.

I'm not sure how this will play out, but BEWARE OF BUYING FROM GLOBALMEDIAPRO!!!! Again, BUYER BEWARE! You will not be able to reach them by phone or email easily and you may be stuck with their product even if you don't want it. I would rather pay more and buy from someone you can trust.

Bad experience, I'm sorry. But it depends. My experience with them is perfect. Ordered, transferred money, delivery after 1 week after payment. All working with my switronix plate showing the % too. So I thing many of us.
BTW I'm sorry for your experience, it could happen to all of us.

Yes Carmine, me too. I have actually had my charger fail and a battery. Shit happens. And the customer service and service recovery was very good.
I would confidently order again and will. I was well aware of no warehouse/storefront and that that is how they managed to keep their prices lower.
I think research is paramount on sellers. Especially if you are looking at buying off the cheapest guys on the market. There HAS to be a reason why.

I have the 2 battery charger from GMP and all good (but noisy) I am also looking at getting the SC1 for travel. Out of interest has anyone plugged in the charger when connected to the camera? Does it charge the battery while the camera is running?

I chose not to go with Global Media Pro. I just felt uncomfortable with their customer service. I asked a few people on Reduser who's opinion I respect, and they all said positive things about the batteries. In the end, I went with Red Bricks.

    I have now purchased 3, 150w Li-Ion V-locks from:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/150wh-V-lock...ht_2342wt_1352

over 2 separate orders. Note these are the _exact_ same battery as sold by Global Media Pro (labels, layout, color, everything):

    -shipping is FREE (USA, ALASKA)
-each (!) battery comes WITH a CHARGER (4-5 hrs to full charge, then shuts off). Work great. Don't overheat. Compact so easy to pack for field use.
    -4-LED power display
    -D-tap
-any questions I have had have been answered within 24hrs, before and AFTER the sales
-Volt display in viewfinder (w my x plate)
-ebay, so paypal instantly - no BS with money transfers.
-ebay _guarantees_ receipt of the batteries (and ebay does step up, as I have found in a few crooked purchases! NO problems with this supplier...)

I have not found a better price or service for these types of batteries ANYwhere. (and I spent days researching them all...)
If someone has found a better source/value please tell me!

I had to alter an order with Globalmedia Pro and they replied within 2 hrs. But that was before I've sent the Wire Transfer. I guess once they've set things in motion with shipping out of China, there is no stopping it. The upside, however, is that they've good prices.
