Hi guys.
I've just wanted to share with you my happiness. I received my camera ! What a great feeling. We had our fingers vibrating when we lifted up the box cover ! Quite strange emotion because I'm managing numerous RED cameras for many companies but hell, what a nice feeling to put your hand on the camera you've just bought for you and only for you (not renting or business. JUST 300% FILMING !)
Ordered 30-45 minutes after announcement SO-50997. Serial number 339.
I made a small test as soon as I received it.
Here it is:
http://vimeo.com/34875819
We shot this very very small test in 15 minutes. (it is only 36s long... the black video after is only a mistake from FCPX)
Our POWERBELT and V-LOCK batteries are dead (11,5V ) and quite difficult to shot with less than 12V with the SCARLET....
Sadly our SideHandle is backordered so we cannot use our 4 REDVOLTS to power the camera.
We shot in 4K: 6:1 - Truly Amazing images and amazing exposure at night !!
We only use one LIGHT PANEL (LED) and that's it .... For some shot, there is only street lights.
Everything was shot at 800 ISO. We color corrected with REDCINE and we pushed as much as we could SHADOW and CONTRAST just in order to see how the "shadows reacted... and how the video noise appears on screen by pushing up the brightness. .. I must say it is quite impressive again ... just watch it...
Just small test in 15 minutes but great fun ...
We shot some clip at 2K - 60fps ... I must say, it is quite nice to see that we can make some nice Slow Motion.
But I tell you the truth, going to 2K is not really a nice deam as you can notice some dramatic difference above all at night. I know why everyone is using the EPIC ... lol
So for now it will be the only thing I could share with you. But as soon as we got all our products we will post some nice Paris by night footage with you.
Just a still from the video. with no Grade extracted directly from R3D
Between 3am and 5am only
Available light only. At 800 Iso, 2000 iso and 1600 iso.
No Color Grade, No Conformation, No RedCineX . Only native conversion from R3d to AppleProRes LT... yes I know you really enhancing the shot but we wanted to test stock footage
But take a look at the quality, in my opinion it is really incredible even with such low quality workflow... seriously
Lens:
Zeiss Planar 50mm f1,7 - 24mm f2,8 - 135mm f2,8
There is some inboard motorcycle camera. But I did not use them because it was too shaky. Pretty hard to find a nice installation on a motorcycle maybe we should have used some Gyro under the camera...
Pay also attention to the skins, I don't find them ugly as many people are saying...
The only thing I notice is that strange video noise at night which is different from the RED ONE... sometimes it looks like 35mm and sometimes it look like video noise... anyway
for the rest it is pretty incredible because I can tell you that the available light is really really low. Trust me. Paris is not New-York at night
Cheers
