Appreciate on-going discussion on the shorter zooms in an earlier thread. Bought the Tokina 11-16 and plan to get a Canon (maybe new Sigma) 70-200 f2.8. But would like to hear from folks here about the MID range zoom to bridge the above 2 focal lengths.

Tokina also offers a 16-50 f2.8 but its NOT IS which I would prefer, nor does it have the weather-sealing of the Canon's in this range.
Canon 17-55 takes care of both these issues, tho you pay for it...

    Thoughts?

Tokina ATX PRO 28-70 f2.6 I or II. hard to find, great look. zoom doesn't extend the length, excellent
    build quality.

I can really vouch for that. Have one here, it's spectacular! Rock solid construction, nice focus Ring, incredibly sharp.

Bob, can you speak to the focus-throw on that lens (i.e. long/short)? I'm on the fence for a normal zoom as well, leaning towards the Canon 24-70, kind of the obvious choice, but I've found it just OK in use. Awesome to hear the Tokina is a parfocal btw!

As with most AF lenses, it's not like a Leica :( It's less than 90 degrees. But the focus ring is nice and smooth.

Thanks Bob, I've kind of obsessed over learning more about the Tokina/Angenieux 28-70 AT-X Pro (I & II) the last couple days, just got ahold of one in EF-mount on ebay :)

I have been looking at the Tamron 17-50mm VC 2.8 lens recently for a walk around / run and gun since the sharpness on it is supposed to be great and the price is right. Any one tried this?
