    Same here.
Already sent it back to Red.
Came back without much of an improvement.
Sometimes, when mattebox and follow focus are close to the Epic's body (small lenses) it is impossible to do the "hold it in and quickly slam the door"-thing.
Had to switch to Red bricks a couple of times to continue the shoot.

I'm afraid it was never meant to be used in a full config with MB and all, rather just to have a bare, hand held "DSMC".

If we are using a cinematic rig, we need the REDmote or a fully functional touch screen…

I grew quite fond of the side handle. Even in a configuration with the touch lcd and the Redmote present.
Its much faster to control the Epic and everything is in the right place.
Even more so when being glued to the evf.

    Cheers,
    Jochen

Yes, it feels nearly like a Canon. I was just referring to the design of the door for the battery compartment.

Mine did this too until I tried to bend the tab back a bit. It popped out. I was scared that i had just broken it... but it went back in easily and has worked ok since.
Would be nice to get a better designed part (or get a few spares for when it goes bad again).

I had the same issue, but like you guys I couldn't afford to part with the side handle within ten minutes of receiving it. So I very slightly straightened the springy metal strip that pushes the battery out (NOT the red tab), so that it wouldn't force the battery out as much. Now my batteries always stay in easily, but I usually have to reach in and pull the battery out with my fingertips. Not ideal, but it works.

    Hi Nick
Is it possible to get the engineers to look at the BombEVF thread too...

Got same the problem, but oddly enough it only happens with one particular REDVOLT. The others work great inside the handle. It's not really causing too much trouble, I may just live with it.

    Thanks Jason,

If that's how it started for you, then I better get it fixed.
