The recent Canon short 'When You Find Me' has some cool shots done on a 5d modified for IR shooting. This got me wondering if I could do this on my Epic? Since the OLPFs are removeable, how hard would it be for there to be an OLPF that allowed all IR through? Maybe one that also had ND built in for this purpose? I'd heard rumors there were IR modified Red 1s, but it seems it'd be a breeze to do this for Epic.

I would love to be able to do this with my Scarlet.

I think the Scarlet and Epic OLPFs are the same size, as such maybe there'd be a big enough market and Red could make an IR shooting OLPF replacement for an affordable no-brainer price? :-) One can hope!

There is a Red One converted to IR called "Infra". Brent knows where it is. I have done extensive shooting with that camera in IR, and the footage is outrageously cool. Basically the IR filter needs to be removed from the filter sandwich, otherwise you are only getting part of the effect.

If Red choose to make an IR-modded Epic, I for one will rent it for some projects next year.

Yeah, that's the one I've heard of. Did you ever post any of your IR footy?

So I have that correct right? That what we'd need is a diff OLPF for Epic/Scarlet? With Red1 it was quite a modification to change the OLPF, while with Epic/Scarlet it's an end user operation.

Are you throwing in your +1 on this thread's request? :-)

I can't show the footage at all, because I shot it for a secret project, but people who have come to my house have seen it. It's very cool! I believe Jim has seen it, as well.

Yes I would be super excited about an IR EPIC. In fact, I was meaning to bring up this subject myself.

I thought that the OLPF was user replaceable/removable since they showed the different versions with ND at NAB. But my Epic came with two pieces of tape over the corners of the OLPF housing as if to say, "don't remove or you will void something". But it seems that they are talking of a replacement for the whole set-up due to both internal flare and the lack of room for wide Leicas. So I guess we just have to wait to see what kinds of options turn up.

This topic came up again recently. Any idea if an OLPF from Red that would allow IR filming will ever be released?
