The goo made the creatures more powerful, perhaps a form of rapid biological evolution.

There is no doubt that the engineer was on a mission to fly somewhere, perhaps indeed Earth. So why does the engineer, knowing full well there are other ships, choose to kill the girl instead of another ship to fly? Was this the only ship with the goo inside? Certainly the only one we explored in the film.

I also don't get why the holographic log showed these engineers panicking, what were they running from?
    The torch killed Holloway.

That was Fifield that came back as the mutated zombie/xeno.

Not just blowing smoke here: I also saw 'Loom' at NAB on a 'still in development' projection system - and that was MUCH better 3d. Cleaner, sharper, and not distracting. I'm sure the proper 'personal optics' (Oakley) helped, but I'm pretty sure I won't be patronizing that IMAX screen again.
You know, I had the same experience. Went to see it in IMAX 3D, and they gave us different glasses from the common RealD ones, funky yellow frames with bigger lenses. I figured at first that it was to help fit in the screen (didn't fit) but after fiddling with them I found they use linear polarizers instead of the circular found in the RealD. There was significant bleed between the eyes, with each eye ghosting to the other. I found it very distracting, but managed to ignore it enough and focus on the film. They must have a different contract for their 3D system at that IMAX, who knows. But now i know, and will likely avoid it (not a huge 3d fan anyhow, only for films where it's likely used well and was shot in 3D).
Technology should be used to do awesome things!

Putting things in US box office perspective...

Ted ($54.1 million) outgrossed Prometheus ($50 million) and The Muppets ($42 million) in the opening weekend...

Yes, an R-rated comedy about an animated vulgar teddy bear beat out both the Alien prequel and Kermit...
and I just can't get myself excited to see another Spiderman remake this week...

Should I have been rooting for the Engineer to win in the end, to save us from a sequel?

that was a female that shoved her (eh hem) down his throat? I would call that the father alien that raped that Engineer.

explain also the "fascinating" green sparkely goo found by David in the beginning on the controls and which was never addressed again.

Movie looked great and Im excited for EPIC, but I saw it twice and the story got worse. reading into that mess is like a first time director looking past all their glowing mistakes - happens.
I would put this as my least favorite Ridley Scott film... and no conjecture or interviews are going to change that. Just reading your post makes me giggle
just as did most of this gorgeous 5K B-movie did :P - Give me the 4 hour director cut and I might change my mind but not likely.

Haven't been around here much since Scarlet came out, just a quick visit to give kudos for the amazing visuals on both Spiderman3 and Prometheus. Truly Epic visuals! If any other camera system claims that they can match or beat what Epic has achieved on this two productions, they must be dreaming, or smoking some really good stuff on their now empty changing tent.

Now that we saw what Ridley Scott did to ALIEN with Prometheus should we really allow him to do BLADE RUNNER 2?

We don't have to 'allow' him, he's the filmmaker, it's his choice.

That being said, I really hope he chooses another screenwriter... My god, Prometheus was one very badly written movie.

I just wish Ridley and his team to work a little bit more on a script side, if you know what I mean. Rest is good.

Prometheus sequel has just been made official. 2014/2015 target date but no script in sight because they haven't locked in the writing talent.
