We were discussing on set just today how Red's policy of "Only owners get updates" doesn't work in the real world where DPs own the gear but their assistants are the ones who make it work. We needed to try a firmware reload to fix some camera weirdness, but we had to convince a friend to share their login to get the files.

Will Red be opening up their support to the people who actually use the cameras instead of only the people who write the cheques? I would like that.

What if the owner doesn't want anyone upgrading the firmware on their camera?
If the owner wants someone to upgrade the FW, its as simple as keeping a USB drive in the camera case with builds he/she allow.

The "advance" release of scarlet is the one that started on the 17th and is the PL mount version. The full release with be Dec. 1st which will be the canon mount (as well as pl)
