$1000 Reward

I am willing to reward $1000 to that person who first develops and posts a Lynda.com style, comprehensive (10hr minimum) module on "Shooting RED - RedCine Workflow". I would personally pay $100 for high level instruction on a private basis so that is the logic of the reward. (edit)

This program would take the RED shooter from acquisition through the entire RedCine program. Every button, every dialog box, export, stills, best practices, file management, archiving, FCP . . . you know, the works

BTW: I am posting this thread not as a criticism of RED support. Kinda hard to bitch about a program like CineX that's . . . FREE! My goal is to be able to use 100% of the power of the program and get a workflow that protects my investment while valuing my limited time. When shooting 5K a whole new range of challenges appear that were not there with lesser formats. I want to specialize in R3D work exclusively for both personal work and selective commercial projects I pursue. I want to be the best at what I do. I currently feel a non-worthy fuckin idiot when working with Epic and the RED workflow. The RED products far, far exceed my knowledge and understanding of them. I want to change that fact pronto and have no problem paying for it since knowledge is always the best investment.

Edit: To preempt those who say "just figure it out" I would respectfully reply with this: I have only so many hours in my day/life and with those I must chose wisely where I spent them. I am drawn to photography and film for the creative element and not the techie code warrior component. Personally I could give a darn if the Epic had Keebler Elves inside making the images with a magic flute. Technology is just a means to and end - I want to understand it quickly and then get on with the task of making art. I have a natural gift of being able to see light, story and composition develop in a scene - I'm sticking with that.

I had a darkroom in high school and have been making images with a wide variety of technology for a very long time. From that I have learned to seek wisdom early and often. I have wasted countless hours searching and experimenting with a wide range of programs. Media100 - yep, I owned it in the 1990's. It's not that I cannot spend the 100 or so hours to become proficient at RED - I chose to invest those valuable hours elsewhere like travel, scouting and creating. I also respect the potential power of all things RED and wish to honor the intense thought and consideration that went into the development of both software and hardware with an understanding of all the tools and their intended function and the inter-relationships. I will not be satisfied with utilizing 15% of the program since that is all I can figure out on my own. The other component of this project is the huge workflow challenge that 5K presents. I do not care to make a critical mistake if it can be avoided with education.

Let's not descend into a debate of if my view of education or time management matches someone else. I have no doubt that there are many who eat code and complexity for breakfast and wonder why everyone isn't like them. If you have a solution that matches the stated challenge then please by all means post it.

I wasnt aware Lynda.com took unsolicited modules. Dont they do this themselves? I presume/hope they are working on it already and your reward isnt necessary. Have you tried contacting them?

That's a lovely idea, albeit utopian one IMO. By the time it's all done and polished up it will be obsolete.
Such is nature of RED and the reason they don't put out comprehensive guides themselves as everything is changing so quickly...
Not that there is anything wrong with that IMO...

I have not contacted them - that would be the Reward Author's role. My bet is that any service that has 175 courses on Video Production could make room for one more. Especially if that program is turnkey, professional done and has a potential audience of 1000's of, perhaps, non-Lynda users (new Scarlet users). If not Lynda - then host the tut elsewhere. The host is not the issue, challenge or goal - it is the content I am after.

Edit: Reward is paid when the program is uploaded to a professional host, like Lynda, and made available to the public. The program needs to follow the Lynda format of Index and Content hierarchy for non-linear access of topics (a 10hr YouTube vid is not the goal). By having the Modular method of organization - release updates and additional modules can be easily inserted in the future. Much like an Epic.

I don't really buy that view - there is time to document a release then update with segments if it is part of the product release package. Scarlet and new users (like me) are going to put a crush on support and learning demand. I also don't find the search, try and fail a very efficient method of learning - when all the mistakes have been made before and someone designed each button in RedCine for a specific reason.
