    Hi all,
it could be handy to have a portable finishing system, possibly Macbook Pro with HD-SDI outputs.
I did some research and here is what I found:

    - Macbook Pro 17" with PCI express $2,400 + Ram and SSD
    - MAXX Mobile rocket $5,949 http://www.maxxdigital.com/mobile-ro...ed-rocket.html
    - Cubix GPU expander 5 laptop $2,599 http://www.cubixgpu.com/Products/Desktop
    - Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 for Mac

The only limitation I see here is being stuck with a the dual core and 16Gb ram

    Anyone has a better idea?

How could you be stuck with dual core when the newest MBP 17" is a quad core machine? :)

So, how do you propose to do SDI with that set up?
You will be much better off with Thunderbolt UltraStudio 3D and Resolve Lite or the full Resolve.
Then you can have your SDI and grading software at much lower price.
Personally, I would stay away from anything Assimilate. They don't have much time left...

afaik , you won't be able to connect both the cubix and the mobile rocket , and probably you'll end up having a bottleneck on the expresscard being not full 16x ,

The mobility of such a system seems less attractive and imho , you'd be easier and better off just with a regular rackmounted system with good cooling and such....just a regular workstation, but that's my opinion

Thats the meanest quote ever, except that in Central, South America, and some parts of Europe, Assimilate rules. But alas they need to radically increase their feature set or join the ranks of the Foundry's Storm

Just stating the obvious. Scratch isn't the price leader of old, nor does it sport must have features. Resolve does...

Haha. But Jake has a point. All Scratch based post boutiques I know invested already in a Smoke on Mac...

A bit harsh Jake, have you even used scratch lately, do you even know how to run scratch properly, if you did you would know that it is a lot quicker at some things than resolve, personally it is good to have that choice, i would let people decide themselves, get a demo license of scratch and try it out. Not good running another product down on a forum, a lot of people work hard to make scratch a success and at least deserve people to give it a try instead of listening to you.
