The Scarlet event was one for the ages. Such a privilege to attend, and it was great seeing so many familiar faces.

Truly a fantastic evening... however... lost to the stunning news of Scarlet, another small demonstration was happening. When the Scarlets were brought out, one of them was equipped with an updated REDmote, which Deanan was demonstrating to those interested.

I was curious, so I asked for a demo, and I was incredibly impressed when he had someone walk the REDmote all the way to the opposite side of the huge soundstage... It had to be at least 130 feet. No problem. Everyone stay tuned... I'm not sure how the improvements are being done - hardware or firmware, but I know RED won't disappoint.

Thanks, Deanan, for the demo and for taking the time to interact one on one with your customers!

    :-)

    Casey,

Great point!! I played with the little beast for about 10 minutes. Never wandered far, but beautiful to see all the menus pop and react as if I was on the handle or TS!! The ability to have the Histogram in hand was invaluable.

Do REDmotes allow for monitoring video while rolling?

If yes, then how cool would it be to add in a headphone jack or have a headphone module- instant wireless director's video monitor.

Did they mention is this was to be implemented in the current REDmote or if it was kind of an inbetween REDmote/REDmote PRO beta hardware or something?

I have visions of using the REDmote PRO remotely with EOS lenses and by using some sweet scaling calculations it acts like a regular/standard focus wheel even though EOS lenses rotate the other direction and don't have nearly as long of a throw as PL lenses... Kind of like doing everything via emulation in the REDmote/PRO.

+1 on everything here. The Redmote Pro potentially will change everything again.

No need for visions; this is what has been promised all along. And, as we have also been told from the beginning, you shouldn't need to wait for Red Electronic Lenses for this functionality, either. Canon and Nikon electronic lenses are expected to function this way in the interim and beyond.

A REDmote Pro that works better than the Birger Mount will be the single most important thing to the RED arsenal.
If RED delivers as promised (it will be Epic said Jarred) then this will kick serious ass in the industry.
I've been working with the Birger for 2 years now and I must say that it's just awesome, when it works. It has some glitches etc. but when it's working it is simply a killer product. Another scary thing is the Canon lenses. They are so ready for cinema and commercial work. No problem.
They look super sharp and the flares are very very nice. Super Speeds nice.
Some breathing hear and there but think about the price for a second. Think about serious PL glass and you know what I mean.
The Canons only seem to be a bit worse than the big guys maybe 15%. Some lenses are almost as good. Judging by eye.

A perfect working REDmote Pro will change a lot in this industry. Funny that the new Canon Cam doesn't have autofocus. That shows me that they still don't understand what we all need. Pulling focus on a 5D is a nightmare. Everybody knows this. A REDmote Pro would change this for good. They didn't even think about this.
Ironicaly, Canon will sell even more lenses because of RED.

Jarred said that they are on it and it will be Epic. When it's only half as good as the real Epic it will be a killer product.
Bring it guys, bring it soon. My Birger doesn't work anymore on my Epic.

    Cheers
