The camera is not reaching end of life lol.

    See my test.
End of life does not mean end of usability and nobody said otherwise. As for prices going down on the RED ONE, used or new, that really has nothing to do with the discussion but I suppose it could happen and it would benefit people like you a lot more than it would me.

Jim also mentioned recently that Stage 2 participants that have kept their Red Ones are going to be really happy that they did. Not sure what that means, but with all the Stage 3 Red Ones coming home, there must something up Mr Jannard's sleeve. In the mean time, my MX continues to work hard alongside my 2 Epics.

Well, if RED is going to be doing some sort of a RED One "freshen up" redo, I sure hope they let us know about it BEFORE we send in our Stage 3 Red Ones. It could just be me, but I happen to really like the form factor of the RED One and would love to be able to keep it. . . if it could received added developments like Monstro, etc., down the road.

    Exactly what Russ said.

People that speak about RED ONE EoL have no idea what they are talking about and probably haven't even seen a RED-MX up close.

People that don't know what EoL means from a business standpoint have no idea what we are talking about and yes, I have seen and used both RED-MX and EPIC recently.

Just to back up what I said in here...

"Red One is not end of life but close" - Mike Seymour

That was tweeted from the launch event per what was being said by RED.

"Obsolescence Obsolete... we said it. We believe it. We are delivering it. The RED ONE was advertised as such. But we realized that it could not live up to the ongoing advancements we had envisioned, even though we offered the MX sensor upgrade which is well beyond what any company had ever done for their customers. So we developed EPIC. And we gave our RED ONE customers a way to upgrade to EPIC without any pain. Stage 2 and Stage 3 are our solutions to Obsolescence Obsolete. Choose one if you are a RED ONE owner. They are your choices. Don't think past these choices... anything beyond these are not fair to us." - Jim Jannard on REDUSER @ 03-22-2011, 02:23 AM

So a DRAGON sensor in the RED ONE is about as likely as my growing a foot to reach Jarred Land's height. It sounds great, but it's just not gonna happen without some serious effort on RED's part. The camera is also reaching End-Of-Life, so there's no logical reason for them to do it. But that can always change.
i, too, seem to remember that RED One will not be able to be upgraded to Dragon.

The EOL of a R1 will depend on the cost of maintenance/repair vs. revenue/value to the owner. The camera will make beautiful pictures for as long as spare parts are available.

I think end of life just means in terms of support from Red. image wise obviously Red won't reach end of life for another 10 years if not more (probably how long it will take for 4k to take off into the home theatre)

I think that many of us really like the size/weight/form factor of our Red One MX SSD's, and many of us would pay for our beloved One's to be up-graded to Dragon.

I know that would mean a complete new "brain" but I am sure the wizards at RED can find a way of fitting all the electronics inside our old One's. Can't be a problem of space for sure, as we all know, we have much more space inside than an EPIC, it is just a question of how to gut the One's and fit the new boards and sensor.
Hey, there will be so much more space inside that it even may be an advantage for cooling...any way, just thinking how many of us would jump on this opportunity.

I never want to part with my beloved Red One, and if I have the chance of upgrading it to shoot like an EPIC I will gladly pay what ever it costs to do so.

How many more would do this?

And how many would buy a new RED One Dragon (if RED uses all those stage 3 bodies) and does this procedure and re-sells them? I am sure they would sell out. Just a thought.

In the mean time, I am patiently waiting for my stage 2 email....it must be just around the corner....
