Anyone buying a new system will be wise to hold off for 10 more days when the Core i7 3930K and 3960X release- 6 core Sandy Bridge CPUs. These will be a further 10%-15% faster than the Core i7 980/990X at the same price points (i.e. $600 and $1k) and more overclockable. Those overclocked will surely drive real-time 4K Scarlet playback.

I'd rather go with stable processor now and wait for the Ivy Bridge update, it's tri-gate.

I'd personally put less budget in the processor, pick a 2600 or 2700k, and combine 2 gtx580.

Thank you all for the advice. Looks like the GTX580 will work fine. I will wait for the new chips to come out, hopefully I can get a new system done before my Scarlet arrives. Where do you guys buy your system from?

Careful, Adobe CS5 and 5.5 don't utilize SLI or anything, so more than one card won't help with your workflow. But maybe you had another reason?

One 580 will make you so happy.

I built my system. Saved a LOT of money.

NCIX.com is pretty sweet for putting together custom computers if you don't want to do it yourself. Or you can have someone like me do it for less, but I am not a major international company.
