Paul, this really does capture the Silent Hill feel. The thing that does it for me is the "What is in this room making that sound, oh hi! now I am going to get the fuck out of here!" moment you captured. Silent Hill is all about atmosphere, and your team absolutely captured that. Really looks wonderful as well.

My only criticism is that it maybe feels one step too much like a video game. Maybe it is possible to still get this sort of feel and still do it in one shot but capture a few more close in moments that really let you feel what the character is feeling, without felling like you are controlling the character?

I would love to see a Silent Hill game or movie based in Japan. But there just aren't enough underground mine fires I would imagine. ;) (Lots of subway stations though, hmm....)

GREAT, now shoot Resident Evil 1. Do you have an old mansion close by? Do you happen to be a master of unlocking? If so PLEASE do it for the fans, with the cheesy dialogue and everything.

Thanks for the comments and criticisms Andrew, I really appreciate them :)

I would love, love, LOVE to make a Silent Hill feature here in Japan! It's part of the reason I chose to make the short - there's a wealth of crazy old buildings and locations that scream Silent Hill, as well as cool subway stations etc.

Plus there's the whole crazy psyche here that is full of untapped stories and messed up ideas.... which the game developers clearly put into the anthology thus far!

I actually used the 5K advantage to push in a couple of times during the editing process, in order to get the closeups you suggested, but in the end it didn't feel right for me so I dropped them in favour of holding the wide the entire time.

    Cheers!

    Paul :)

    Thanks Mohamed! :)

There are definitely some old mansions around that are abandoned, though the western architecture is not as prevalent here as I would like.

I've had a couple of people suggest another franchise to shoot as well called Fatal Frame, that I'm looking into now (never played the games, unlike Silent Hill). Personally I liked the first Resident Evil movie, hated the second, thought the third was ok and the fourth.... cool visuals but not much else (haven't seen it in 3D unfortunately).

Game wise it's been a while since I played them, but again, if there's interest I'd be very happy to go back into them and see if it can be rebooted in some way that pleases the fans :)

    Cheers from Japan,

    Paul :)
