Pretty awesome for sure.
I've ordered one already, hopefully in next week.
So what I understand is that you plug this baby in press record on the PIX 240 and it records right from the EPIC. Do you need to press record on the EPIC? Just thinking about events and stuff where 1080 is deliverable and your shooting hours and hours of footage. It would eliviate any media storage issue if you were just shooting on plan old CF Cards...
Correct?
Love Sound Devices. Rock-solid in every way.
The Pix also has top-shelf audio recording.
Sp very tempting!! A DP buddy offered to split the cost.... Very tempting!!
Patrick, check out the video on Jarred's inital post for how it links to the Epic - pretty awesome!!
Roberto, is the audio record quality sufficient for broadcast, if you know?
Here's a question- when shooting any of the 5k resolutions which are not 16x9 (5kff comes close) I assume the output is letterboxed/cropped in some manner on sdi wouldn't it make 1080 deliverable useless or difficult? Ie you have a 1080 16x9recording with black bars on top and bottom. No problem for offline but if you are only going to use the prores is there/ will ther be any scaling choices in either Epic or the pix 240? Does this make sense? Of course 4kHD and problem goes away.
I think a dsmc module with similar functionality would be a waste of Red's time right now. Even for sending the signal over wifi we have the teradeck solution.
I would rather like seeing red focus on some other projects like affordable projection and such.
Yes. Excellent sound in means excellent sound recorded.

Dear Jarred,
What I'd like to know is whether the epic triggers the recording of this device, if no media ssd at the Epic is present; allowing shooting to this device without recording to the Epic.......
