Quick look at AjA Ki-Pro workflow for on set 3D "proxies"

This is a solution I cooked up for the last 3D epic feature I was on....take a look might solve some problems for a few of you.

It worked.....not without some hickups from time to time but since the epic doesn't make any "proxies" this is the best solution if you find yourself without the transcoding horsepower or redrockets.

Not to mention it gives you on set (2D) playback.....

we used Ki-pro mini's but it should also work with the larger version.

Does the KiPro Mini record 24 through the HD-SDI?

I read on a post a while back that they released an update that keeps the prores file names identical to the RDM file names, is that true as well?

Yes, it does record 24 through HD-SDI and yes it keeps the file names. Keep in mind it will also record any frame guides or status displays going through the SDI as well.

You can send a clean signal through the SDI. The two issues Ive seen are 1) the video is 3 frames out of sync on audio and 2) the signal is not full raster on 4KHD causing a window effect with a thin black border on all sides. Other formats cause letter boxing or pillar bars in the SDI signal.

if you read the article carefully I answer all these questions....

as far as syncing the audio delay....I just had our audio guy send me a corrected feed and plugged in straight into the back of the kipro.

I might be a late to join the conversation here regarding the KI PRO MINI. So I recently just got it but haven't had a chance to test it yet (waiting on camera delivery). How does it work if you shoot in 4k or 4khd? How does it down convert it to HD for quick turn around and just getting things quickly into finalcut? Do the images get cropped in any weird way or does it still give you what you shot but just in hd size?

Bom dia,

the ki-doesn't downconvert.....no matter what the res on the EPIC it only sends out HD on the sdi......so yes this is just to avoid transcoding and to get the offline editor footage to edit with that will conform later.
