I agree, it is clear now that Scarlet is not the Scarlet of the prototype versions we've seen before. I predicted it would not ship with a 3K sensor months ago but be capable of 4K and it is looking more and more like that will be a reality. Fixed lens version? likely not in the cards either now. To me it seemed contradictory based on the belief of Red that 2K is not adequate for cinema production so why would they release a camera that can only be finished in 2K?

    Scarlet, 4K PL
Scarlet, 4K Cannon or Nikon mount option.

I see this as an option for Scarlet unlike the m, or X because of the targeted price point of Scarlet compared to the cost of the mount as well as the benefit of luring all those HDSLR users away from the upcoming options from Canon, and Nikon who would rarely or never shoot with pl lenses.

Regardless of which direction Red steers this thing, I am looking forward to owning my first Red camera which will be a Scarlet. We are also counting the days waiting for our X to show up to our local Coop. We are around number 1115. Anyone have an idea how fast they are shipping?

I don't think RED would put in the time and effort to develop a state of the art Fixed lens and proudly show it off at all the shows only to scrap it later.

Then I say that you should just get out there and buy the competitors' sub-$12K RAW better-than-2K ultra-high definition HDRx camera. I say, vote with your dollars!!....oh wait, *headsmack*,...

    I kid, I kid.

Just be patient, Pierre. Every change that RED has made to their program has been an improvement over their user base's expectations. Scarlet/EPIC-S will be amazing.

RED does not pull punches. Everything in their track record so far shows that they over-deliver on features. (Just not always on schedule...)

Thanks for the map Jim, but as you are talking about the 3d projection now, does that mean it is real soon and the scarlet and Redray is coming sooner? You did say that Red would no longer talk about things before they were ready ;) .

He's not revealing anything new, just reinforcing what has already been put out there so that people keep the faith.

With respect to the fixed lens system you may be right, but the 3k path just doesn't seem right to me based on Red's philosophy and the hints along the way.

It's up to Jim really. But obviously im mistaken or misinterpret about his phylosophy changes. It's not about old or new but...the revealing part..

Yes, I think THEY can... (I also think it will not be the first time they do it) The knowledge and experience they gainned from the R&D isn't lost and can be used to develop other variations much faster.

There are too many of us counting on the Epic-S. If anything I see a name change for the camera, which is fine and might be less confusing for people. But dropping it entirely? I don't think RED would screw us like that. I have faith!
