Wow, Jac, awesome post. Thanks for that! I am so proud of your involvement in this little film, and am totally grateful to you, Warrick and Leon, and the whole cast and crew. We had tons of fun, and had literally zero problems with the camera.

If anyone is interested, I'm writing up a tech series on my blog Digital Cinema Demystified comparing my recent experiences with Red One MX, Arri Alexa and EPIC. Here's the first article titled - "Sharp Shooting for Guerilla Warfare - Part 1" - http://dcinema.wordpress.com/2011/08...lexa-and-epic/

    Lovely material Jac!

And I really hope a lot of Epic users will display visual ideas the way you do
It is a real inspiration and brain-unlocker.

I never shot film, except from stills. So take the next sentence with many grains of salt...

But I think shooting the Epic is the closest one can get as to using a digital camera like one can a filmcamera, when it comes to lighting and flexibility on set.
The Epic RAW files seems to me to be more flexible than a 10-bit log dpx film-scan
they're just so fat, flexible and juicy all over the range, that I still can find myself sitting and smiling for this feature only.

    that said:
I have shown grips and photographers what works, and they have the same first reaction:
Wow. I can light like I shoot film again
THIS shouldn't be possible with a digital camera...

    It's not the measurable DR.
It is about how that range holds up throughout.

    Thanks again!
    Would love to see more!

I really feel that when I hold one of our Epics I'm presented by a very new set of possibilties... The Red 1 was capable of nearly everything that a typical film camera was (I realise there is a set of exceptions to this statment but broadly I feel it is 'true'). As exciitng as this was, and I don't underestimate this, it really was mainly a case of cheaper... I actually feel Redcode was far more liberating than the camera as an imaging box.

The Epic however offers a unique combination of qualities that, for me, creates the conditions for the posibiliteis of a real shift in filmaking. This really excites me and i hope as a comunity we can adapt and take the opportunity offered.

The Epic asks a question of us and it is great to see a few of the guys on this forum try and answer it.

Glad you are enjoying yourself and thanks for posting
