    This is really simple guys.

The Stage program was a program created to take care of our family... you guys are not just customers to us.. we really look at you as our brothers and sisters.

It was ( at least we think ) an incredible gesture to show how much we value that relationship.

To find people trying to go around the system by doing sketchy lease to own and $1 sales to get around the rather simple terms is just plain wrong. It not only breaks our obligation to provide whatever stage you signed up for.. but it also breaks our hearts. It's really that personal.

We have watched this go on for awhile.. Jim has posted that it upset him.. but people continue to do it.

For all of you guys here that have posted that you have kept your camera and have stated various states of affection for your R1... We will never forget. We love you guys. For those of you like Andrew that have kept your camera and plan to sell it afterwards for various reasons... you are good in our books. But those of you that have sold off your camera and somehow think that a loophole makes everything o.k... Re-read Jim's signature.

I clearly remember signing the form, and that ownership was not to change before the Epic X delivery.

Glad my R1 is safely next to me! I can't imagine being without it for a minute!

That really clear some speculations but I see some people are really in trouble.

So I understood the RED feelings behind this programm the right way and I have to ad: RED 222 helped me to make enormous good pictures and business, so this "old lady" deserves to work on for a while and after that find a state of the art retire: a honorable place as the one and only collected film tool in my little personal film history.

We bought our Red One with all our spendings and small change. We probably were the poorest Red Owners by then but we believed in the project and since then, we made good use of the camera. My work benefited a lot from using a Red and I got faster where I wanted to be as a director. It wouldn't have been the same without my camera. Meeting all kinds of good people and being on jobs that I never done before.
When Red announced the stages I couldn't believe it. It was like I could start the ride all over again... and be able to afford it. The stages help me to ROI on a longer period of time and not be left in the dust when everyone would get their EPIC. Something very important for startups like us.

    This is all very generous!!!

I truly understand the sentiment and logic, if you want Obsolescence Obsolete, then you have a simple to rule to follow.
Stay committed to the agreement that you are part of the family, because you committed in the beginning to RED.
By buying the RED ONE the benefit we are getting is the EPIC X for price that sticks to the promise of
US19000/-. Just because you have a new child in the family does not mean the older brother is useless.

Even today the RED ONE can do more than any other camera out there for the price/performance.

Our RED ONE will remain ours as long as we/me as company/person exits.

Thanks once again RED and I for one do understand what LOYALTY means?

If people don't they will learn sooner than later.

UUuuuuuum... weird feeling swelling in my tummy....

Since I'm a EPIC junky now... I did sell my RED ONE MXs... Was I not allowed too???? Was there a rule to which i had to keep my camera's forever even though I would never ever use them again?... How does this work. Have I missed sopmething major here ????

Sorry, But I'm super lost here guys? I don't understand... don't mean to sound like some naive idiot... but I need to know if I have done something wrong without knowing.

I didnt know that I was not allowed to ever sell my old fully paid for up to date cameras and loose my place...
I have not done anything unto-wart or illegal have I.. Ive not sold my cameras for a 1$...

I'm feeling super sick here... due to not understanding correctly. what do I do????

It's all perfectly clear really. And it is a moral as well as a financial issue. It seemed to me at the time that stage 2 was a kind of afterthought. We had for a long time been promised that we could trade in our Red Ones for the upcoming Epic. Jim's words were something like "for those of you that love your Red One and don't want to part with it..." So to facilitate that, you keep the R1 but get half the discount. All the emails said you must not sell the R1 or Epic before the Epic delivery.

Surely if you wanted not to keep the R1, stage 3 was the better deal financially.

I suppose I'm in a minority here, but if for any reason (and it would have to be financial difficulty), after taking delivery of my Stage 2 Epic I had to sell one, it would be the Epic and not the R1.

This whole Red thing is a rather strange phenomenon. There is no other company quite like it. It is totally personal and personality based. I have been in business for over 50 years and what I miss most in the last few decades is the personal. You get that in bucket-loads from Red and though I'm a long way from Hollywood, I have a fantastic relationship with the Red Europe - Alan Piper and his team.

I'm not a sycophant - probably English reserve and hence my low posts in 4 years - but I do buy into the Red philosophy. I trust the obsolescence obsolete mantra and I'm confident the R1 will not be forgotten.

However, I'm not desperately worried about the "Philosophy Change". I can't see Jim or Jarred staying buttoned up for too long on something really exciting. They'll find a way of dropping the nuggets.

This sucks for someone wanting in on the Red revolution with a lower budget. With Epic-S being dropped from the official roadmap, the used Red One MX was the other only possible path, at least for those like me that doesn't want to compromise on the sensor size. 2/3rds Scarlet is just not for me...

I can see were the Red team is coming from with this, but I would also like to remind the Red team that some of us just couldn't afford a Red One at the beginning, and not an Epic X right now (30K + for a ready to shoot pachage). Some of us have been loyal and supportive to the red movement since the beginning, and purchasing a used Red One MX is probably the way many of us on this side of the barricade are trying to go to join the Red revolution...
