The gap is shrinking and the time is running.

Making overpriced and over-hyped products for the price for example that's something like a Louis Vuitton and Hermès expensive lady bag

is a very dangerous doing sort of things in this industry.

Definitely you'll get your money burned.

Don't forget one famous example of a Leica camera mistakes in the recent history (especially during the time when was owed by Hermès).

I don't see Alexa high prices to survive in a near future.

The only serious future is a strong product line with a clear vision that also has a very fast turn-around time and outstanding quality at affordable prices.

So only Epic-S and Scarlet Fixed or Interchangeable should be in the category that was described at the sentence above.

The solution you are looking for is still on the table.

    Jim

What I'm getting from reading between the lines is Epic S is off the table? Should we have to read between the lines? My point here (like Mark Toia's) is that many of us who plan and budget for future gear need these announcements (which we all know are always subject to change). The Epic S was the camera that fit our business and budget (at least the proposed pricing) and we've held off buying a Sony F3 for 8 months while following the progress. All I need to know is either yes, wait another X months and the Epic S will be out or No, it's dead and look elsewhere. Before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm not bashing Red at all. I just want to know where this stands so we can make a informed decision. Red should be thrilled that many like me support the product so much as to wait years to budget to purchase one. Is that so bad?

Being a laymen from the buisness side of the house, I cannot tell you what is the correct way for RED to go. As a future customer I enjoyed the openess of RED, despite the frustration that sometimes came along with it. I do not know how cut throat the competition can be. So just consider the following ideas a "Brain Storm."

What about a 6 month information delay?

More information on the higher end products than the low end ones? From a production houses stand point, a knowing you will not slap your customers in the face is a good thing (aka FCP X.) Even a vague road map. (I am just an indie looking for the Scarlet so that suggestion was hard to say, I want more scarlet info, but my I do not NEED it like a production house.)

Maybe a daily (weekly, or monthly) question forum? Where you can ask questions that may or may not be relative to the RED roadmap. And everyone knows it. This can keep customer wants and needs of possible future features, but no one will really know which direction you are going.

Personally I like the information, but all good things must come to and end.

I think the key word is the “balance”
Balance of what could be announced ahead of time and what can’t.

RED is unique company the way it is conducting its business, very unique.
I wish it will stay this way and will not go the Apple way.
Maybe companies that are involved in mass production benefit from being so secret about its business.
RED however can still afford to be transparent but maybe to be a bit more selective what could be shared with its customers.

There appears to be (in true REDuser style) some reading of tea leaves going on. So, a couple of observations:

    1. 'Dragon AND Monstro sensors'? That's interesting. I've never previously seen it made explicitly clear that they're two different things. That makes four different sensor families. Is Dragon the next generation, followed by Monstro down the line? Time will tell :-)

    2. I note that EPIC-S has been silently dropped from the roadmap, despite things like Monstro and the projector, which are much further out, being mentioned. Not a good sign; I suspect quite a few people will NOT be pleased with this news.

I'm thinking that Epic-S is placed under the larger Epic-X program, thus there was no need to mention it in the roadmap. Jared responded to an inquiry about Epic-S last week saying that Epic-X is the priority for now. I think if it was abandoned they would have said something.

Agreed -- all it takes is one RED employee to say, "the EPIC-S is still on the way, as we said it was in June ($12-13k, 5K at 60FPS, 6:1, no RED Dragon upgradeability). Then people can continue saving their $ in anticipation...
