This is big news. Do you have any more details?
We should ask Steven Soderbergh.
He is experienced AVID editor for years.
And he just shot two full features with RED.

Avid have been developing this for some time. It's not directly related to Red workflows. But it's going to be a great addition to the toolbox when they release it.
Read here (Avid Forums)
It's called MetaFuze and provides a DPX (and TIFF for now with other formats to follow) conversion to SD an HD media with MXF wrapped metadata. Timecode, KeyKode, UNC, LUT, etc. will all be supported for conform check and conform lists for DI mastering. It is scheduled for mid 2008.

Faster Michael! :)
I know! Sometimes I wished I knew how to write code so I could pitch in and help! ;)

Michael>> Do you know what type of license MetaFuze will be? Is it going to be bundled with MC or is it a free application for anyone with a CPU in idle mode?
Distributed rendering would be sweet as well.
We cannot give details on products that fall outside the quarterly boundaries due to legal issues for public companies, but all of the above is being considered.
