A blog is a blog. I just expect a bit more objective effort from a respected publication like The New York Times.
I rest my case with this link:

It's pretty clear Apple's not interested in the pro editing market anymore. It's not really their bag now, they don't need us types like they used to.
Any serious pro offline or facility editor would drop it like a despised inbred cousin at this point. If that's not Apple's intention, then they're seriously bordering on complete idiocy.
Yeah, that was kinda my take when they made a big deal about dropping the word "Computer" from their name. Ever since the iPod they've been less and less interested in selling computers and WAY less interested in developing software for those computers. Last year the iPhone alone represented five times the sales of Apple's desktops. And my guess is the profit margin on the phones is quite a bit higher than the margins on their desktop machines. The last Macworld I attended had some computer hardware on display, but it was like some kind of vestigial organ.
All of which pretty much blows. I dread the idea of working on a PC, but of course there are other options for Mac. I've really been holding out hope that Final Cut X would be the big step forward Apple's needed for several years now. Apparently not.

Man. I didn't realize Final Cut Pro was such a red-headed step child in the editing world. I've been using Final Cut Studio 2 for years, never saw the need to upgrade to 7. Played around with Premiere CS5, didn't feel all THAT much different from Final Cut... if Apple has been so behind for so long, not sure why most of you didn't switch to begin with... ;)
For anyone doing serious work with R3D footage, I don't see how they could still be suffering with FCP7 over the past 2 years. They're just torturing themselves... Then again, what you don't know doesn't usually hurt you. Hehe.
Said it before in one of these FCPX threads, but anyone thinking about "jumping ship" now is delusional... They have been circling the wreckage in a lifeboat, not having yet realized the ship sank in January '09.
Brinkmann weighs in -
"So if you’re really a professional you shouldn’t want to be reliant on software from a company like Apple. Because your heart will be broken. Because they’re not reliant on you. Use Apple’s tools to take you as far as they can – they’re an incredible bargain in terms of price-performance. But once you’re ready to move up to the next level, find yourself a software provider whose life-blood flows only as long as they keep their professional customers happy. It only makes sense."

I think it's time for all us to come to terms and realize that Apple is giving us the slow-fade.
SLOW FADE:
Function: verb
1: lacking in readiness, or willingness to accept a budding relationship therefore, institutes this passive aggressive method of disappearing from a relationship all together over an extended period of time.

Exactly. I learned editing on FCP and Mac. I thought FCP 6 was a comfortable NLE, till I tried Vegas Pro back in 2009. I could barely believe my eyes when I edited a 4K R3D natively. Just drag and drop. No transcodes for dozens of hours, no constant rendering to preview your edit, no rewraps, no reconforms. Let's not get into the interface and features, many of which FCP X is still "inspired by". I knew there was no point in hanging round FCP. I would estimate it has saved me a good thousands of hours which has paid back way more than the investment made to move to Windows and Vegas Pro. (and subsequently adding Premiere Pro to the arsenal)
But if I were still using FCP and FCP 7 - refusing to try a different platform - I would probably be content with the old workflow.

Basically Apple is saying what the (calm, patient) users have been saying as well - it's not there YET. I doubt this page alone will stop the iRiots, but hey, they're trying. ;)
