Nothing, of course. You guys could still charge 30K for EPIC-S alone and it would still be worth it.

But 14K is way out of the range of the AF100/FS100 crowd, which was still in the ballpark of the original Scarlet S35 price, more or less.

I just mentioned 12K (for a package with the most basic stuff) because that's what I can afford at the moment.

But now I might consider splitting the costs of the camera with one or two other people.

    Not complainin'.

I expect the EPIC-S to be in the $12-$13K range.

    For drama, 2 x EPIC-S < that 1 x EPIC-X == awesomeness

Guess you should rename the thread, Good News... Heh heh heh...

    60fps @ 5k @ 6:1 is simply astounding. I'm a happy guy :)

Do compression ratio options change as the frame gets lower or when resolution is reduced like the Epic-X?

the fact that something so powerful is less than $20k to OWN forever and do with as you please is really incredible....

i mean seriously, things are changing really quickly. i never thought it was possible to just make movies if you wanted to...

Means you can use more money on production value instead of the gear you use :-)

    Amazing news!

I'm expecting Epic-S finally start to ship before NAB 2012.

Somebody told me that the year 2012 will not bring the end of the world,

but could be that will bring the end of the film acquisition.

    How?

It's a year that will bring Epic-S, revolutionary 5K digital acquisition camera system that can shoot 1-60fps,

has brand new Red Dragon sensor with the latest color science improvement that is able to equal any existing film stock look,

also has XL (extended latitude of 15 T stops) thanks to the newest HDRx implementation (read more about it below).

    What else more?

Has RedLogFilmXL output at all available resolutions (5K, 4.5K, 3K, 2K, 1080p, 720p) that will implement a sort of RED C-Log

or RED S-Log recording feature that means no more clipping with Red Epic cameras!!!

Of course has its own interchangeable mount system.

And it comes with revolutionary affordable price in the $12-$13K range (basic brain package).

Sounds great. The only request I'd have is that, if possible there's an option to scale the lower resolutions (i.e. 2k) from the full sensor size.

    Looking forward to it.

    Sanjin,

I was under the impressiofrom what I heard Ted saying at NAB, that the RED Dragon sensor was just for the EPIC-M and EPIC-X? Might have miss understood but that's the impression I got. Don't think anything has been said either way.

It's just one of my wishes of course...
