Just would like to add I have tried lots of different workflows now.
I am wrting about RED in my master thesis in University with main emphasis on Workflow and economy...
Here are some I have tried:
RED ALERT-DPX EXPORT-DIGITAL VISION (software)
The processing time is fine. I exported the RED files from DPX followed by an import into Data Conform and editing then Grading in Nucoda. The only problem I came across here was unclibrated screens and lack of good balanced lighting in my RED ALERT export (i know amateur)..
FCP (alone) + SCRATCH
The easiest method, but finding the SCRATCH to be very slow in processing power. I would like to add this will of course improve in time with faster processing speeds also the fact that I am exporting 4K dpx files which would stop even the MIT super cluster. I can safely say a very intutive process and very easy to learn the basics. Shame FCP is mac and SCRATCH is PC...
REDCINE
Brilliant program a simplified version of SCRATCH without the CONFORM (undestandably considering you cant expect a conforming software and a 4k camera for around 300000$ package). REDCINE is very easy to use and great for example dailies and exports in smaller files for watching. The perfect indie tool (or in our case in Sweden feature film)
Well I will come with more when I know more...
Time to print to FILM...
Otherwise the coder at RED and SCRATCH who seem to have worked together to create the software NICE ONE ....
