Poor Transcoding Performance

Hi everyone, your local noob here. I'm having trouble getting storm to export clips in a timely fashion. It's supposed to be using my Red Rocket card, but it's taking like 20:00 for a 1:07 clip. Any ideas?

can you post your exact hardware and software specs?

have you tried putting your rocket card in slot 3 yet? when you open up RCX, does it tell you ur rocket card isn't in a 8x slot? usually if you are running rocket in slower slot it tells you. Though I've gotten real time debayer with rocket out of a 4x slot pretty much all the time...

Hi Dave,

Storm is not as fast as RCX when using a Rocket, but then again it's often doing more with the image so maybe this processing is what slows it down.

Are you 100% sure you have engaged Rocket use in Storm?

Hi Dave,
What output resolution and format are you exporting as? Also, what time do you get when exporting in software mode? i.e. Export -> RED -> 'Use RED Rocket' set to off.


Also, can you take a screengrab of the following:

Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info...
Hardware -> PCI Cards
Select 'RED Rocket'

...and send the screengrab through to the guys in support.

It doesn't seem like Storm is accessing my rocket card AT ALL. I haven't had the patience to let a file finish exporting, cause it wants to take 30 minutes for a minute long clip! I'm 100% sure that I have the rocket engaged in storm. I'm looking to output ProRes Proxy LT 1280x720. I'm going to send off those screen shots shortly.

Hi Dave, I believe Daniel in support is following up with you. The screenshots will help greatly in helping to diagnose the issue. It does seem a bit odd that card is available in REDCineX but not Storm but we'll hopefully get to the bottom of it soon.
