Tim, I apologize if my reply sounded harsh, too. It's just that I miss the point of these threads. As far as I know, Cameron could have bought 50 Epics to break them apart and study the technology better to put it in a new camera or in the Alexa M, though that sounds quite out of this world. All I'm saying is that I really can't see the point and/or get excited about these "news". But, then again, it's a marketing choice by Red, and I'm really a small nobody to question it. I'm merely expressing an opinion, as wrong (or right) as it may sound, and it's just my own, I'm not really trying to convince anyone of anything at all.

Not sure really why everything has always to be derailed on here...

    SERIOUSLY!!

Come guys, why does it always has to be this way, is almost tiring to read all the time, this is a RED FORUM, of course every one here is BIAS to RED products,
otherwise they would be at the Canon or Arri forum!!

I love Canon, been Photographing with their cameras for over 20 years!!

I love Arri, they have been making some of the best Film and now the best Cine/Video Digital cameras,
in cooperation with Zeiss, they have made the absolute BEST Cine Glass the world has ever seen, "The Master Primes" of course.

Canon has cameras, as does Arri, the Alexa and the new Alexa M are stunningly fatastic products, but why, for the love of GOD!! Even try to compare them to EPIC!!

Is like photographers that disscuss with me comparison of a 7D with a Hasselblad Medium Format Sensor @ 65MP, and argue that the images look the same, HA HA HA... PLEASE...

Alexa is a great camera, and so is every other camera out there, just each is different to its technological advancement and what they offer, each is meant for a purpose...

NONE is meant to compete with EPIC, why?? Because they have absolute no standing GROUND to do so... ;)

Story telling has always been my only goal and dream in life since childhood, the equipment that we use, does indeed shape how we do and tell this stories,
but should always be an implementation of this tools, not anything else but.

    HAPPY SHOOTING!!

Oh... and once again... CONGRATS JIM and TEAM for yet and other GIANT win on this ever TUFF Hollywood world, well deserved,
as you guys have made a truly INSANELY FANTASTIC piece of machinery that is like nothing I ever used!!

Since the giant brains at Weta have probably developed a massively efficient pipeline for Epic 3D with The Hobbitt, and since Weta will be doing (I imagine) all the major CG on Avatar II, it seems eminently logical for Cameron to go with Epic. He's probably seen all the Hobbitt's tests and even the dailies from shooting so far. (I imagine that Cameron and Weta share information fairly freely since he's a fairly large client, and is an encyclopedia of 3D & CG knowledge himself.) What can he be planning to do with 50 cameras though? I wonder if he'll place the first huge order for Leica Summilux-C glass, as well.

I think ppl who think a s35 aps-c sensor looks the same as a medium format+ camera needs their eyes and or brained checked.

back on topic though, makes me wonder what the Alexa M's are gonna be for, 50 Epics is hopefully avatar 2... the stuff signed with Arri, side projects? B cams? who knows, the man has enough money to anything he wants. But this sure further proves that Epic is the camera of choice for 3d application hands down.
