Today we did some resolution testing (with adult supervision) to see how well the new Leica lenses perform for an upcoming feature. Of course the Alexa was included in the tests as required by law.

The Leica lenses perform better than any lens we have tested to date... beating the Master Primes and RED Pro Primes by just a bit.

No reason to get good lenses unless you are going to use them...

" For comparison, HDTV has 1920 pixels per line. 4K (4096 pixels per line) scans are sometimes performed for VFX and some productions, Spider Man 2 for example, have been done entirely in this format. Looking at the digital files in Figure 1, a 4K scan definitely contains more details than a 2K scan. To guarantee that all details from the scene are captured a 4K scan is necessary. "

That's amazing. What's also very noticeable is the increase in contrast Epic affords in the 2K and below range. No one can argue that we don't see level of resolution in a theatre. Epics 4.2K measured resolution helps improve resolution at the 1, 1.5 and 2K levels in a dramatic way.

Really, BRAVO to the Red Team!

And you guys thought I was exaggerating about these Leicas!

The scary part is, you don't have to look at these lenses at center crop at T4... they are sharp as hell wide open, and in the corners, with little distortion on the wide end.
