The tragedy in Japan and the devastation to it people and land was beyond the control of any human being. Any reasonable person understands that. It's true that we all try our best to plan for the future and suffer disappointment when things go wrong but with this mass catastrophe, which continues today, our concern should be with the people of Japan. Instead, it is sometimes focused on the inconvenience it causes our lives.
The delay in the delivery of an electronic device is frustrating. Devastation and mass human loss is tragic. Most have kept that in perspective. Taking it out on Red or any of the hundreds of other companies that will be effected by this act of God is just not fair.
Jim has always been fair to us and I sincerely hope that the transparency we have come to love and respect will continue.

Ok, pardon my ignorance, can some one explain RED Dragon? Is it a sensor upgrade for the RED One, or the Epics and Scarlets? Me, on the other side of the world right now, am kinda at a loss.

From my perspective, this year had a dark shadow cast over it since the Tsunami hit. Preparations met expectations and I think everybody wanted the cavalry to ride in and rescue us all. Matt's accessories were great and Tattoo was amazing for a film that was conceived and finished within 7 days! Hats off to Bill Paxton and the rest of the cast and crew. Red Dragon is very exciting-- more on that from me later... It struck me that Red was the only booth that had actual bloodletting this year! That rocks in a big way! I can't wait to see those tattoos in 4k! I'll be hanging around tomorrow, pestering Red team and asking questions I know won't get answered.

Red is a mature presensce now. The booth is bigger. Its a going concern. Maybe we all depend a little too heavily on Red to give us that adrenaline boost. We all took a hit with the wave and the radiation- and it pales when measured against the suffering of the Japanese people. But there are many rays of hope for those of us who owe Jim an unpayable debt for giving the world a 4K future. Jim's influence was deeply felt by the group that watched Sony's 4K offering. Its a magnificent time to be a filmmaker.

I'm not sure why all of you sound so down. I could not make it to NAB, but I've been really excited about all the new gear coming from Red. I watched Redmodz and saw the size of the crowds going into the Red booth. I've been cracking up watching the competition trying to catch up with Modular Alexa M and Sony F65..... then BAM!!!! Red and TED announce the release of the MONSTRO DRAGON, immediately sucking up all the air in the camera world. NAB is just one show where people go to see future products and new offerings. The internet has changed everything, NAB future has to be a place where people go to touch and feel shipping products ('dead serious"). Every announcement this year has been so far pretty exciting, but leaves one with a feeling of emptiness as every single product except Avid 5.5 is not shipping till June for obvious uncontrollable and tragic reasons. We should lift our heads up high and keep on keeping on.

I'm looking forward to learning more about the accessories. I saw a few things that Matt demoed that looked cool but the video was low rez (.02K I think!) and was hard to see detail. But grateful to have the video!

The iPad app... yes... more info please!

Any chance we'll get to see "Tattoo"?

Jim does this mean this that you will not share a scarlet update? I think the that the openess must continue, atleast for epic and scarlet.
Otherwise its like watching a long movie and 10 min before the end turn of the television until the the cast and crew names
Starting to roll. Now that would bean a disapontment. I have no clue if everything is so unstable with missing parts that its to unserstan to
Give a relese date. If theres a disaster again that threw the releasedate away im sure everybody understand.
If its easier you could turn it around and say there will not be any scarlet deliverys before september for example.
Im sure its more than me with dedicaTed budget for the scarlet that would like to spend some it on other stuff
If we know for sure the camera wasn't open for sale next day.

As I said on the NAB thread: Everything we saw today was announcement worthy. I just simply couldn't pick which one was the "big one." We knew something had happened by the second half of the day, but I can say I'm not surprised or upset given the circumstances. Disappointed, but only at the situation, and not at RED or the team at all.

I think making announcements at shipping is a smart move. We have so much to anticipate already I can't imagine what it would be like to hear more. 3rd party developers are pushing out so much. Matt is one, Brook is another, ET yet another... I can't wait for it all to come down.

And my friends will stop laughing at me when I talk about the latest thing I saw on the reduser forums. From now on I'll be able to simply say "it's available."

Who is taking things out on RED? I think there was just some misunderstanding about the nature of the NAB announcements, so many people were wondering if there was going to be a further announcement later this week. I think that despite Jim's "Bad News" post, many people were hoping to get some sort of status update on the Stage 2 program. Others were hoping for affordable 4K displays in the RED store. I was hoping to see a working Redmote Pro or a wireless HD-SDI/HDMI module for Epic.
I personally don't think it's that big a deal. We've just spent the last few months speculating about what Santa was going to bring us, and some people didn't get what they wanted. Personally I think it's a good policy to only discuss things that are about to ship, or at least almost in production.
