  1. #1 Consolidating R3D after edit?
    Anyone like to share what software tools they might be using to consolidate folders of R3D files down to just the files that have been used in the edit? Bringing jobs into Nucoda the conform scan can take hours if the client has brought in all the rushes they shot on hard drive, and I'd like to preconform in some way to reduce the number of folders that have to be scanned.

    So if anyone knows any tools I'm all ears. Particularly any tools that can take an Avid edl.

    hello, I have a small Applescript I wrote that does just that, you can try it out... if hopefully you’re on a mac :

    it will ask you for a file (EDL, XML, in fact it could be any file containing R3D file names) and make a list of used R3D

    then it will ask for the location(s) of your R3D, it will search for those files and match the result to the list of used R3Ds then ask for the destination folder (where you will consolidate).

    It will then tell you how much data will need to be copied to the destination folder (depending if some files are already in that folder, that’s useful if R3Ds are on many drives and you cannot plug them all at once to consolidate in just one step) and if there’s enough room will let you initiate the copy.

    Please be patient while it copies as it will not tell you much about the progress but you should see the files appear if you switch to the finder and the script will tell you once everything is copied.

    That’s it !

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
    I wrote the script for myself and it is not yet fully polished with a nice copy progress indication etc (will try to add that soon)

    This script is free but if you like it and wishes to support the creation of such tools please have a look at my other scripts (listed in my signature) or just make a small donation to my paypal account (mika at nerim.net)

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
    Please report any bug or success to this thread...

    HTH

    What's an Avid EDL? EDL is software agnostic...
    If you're working with Avid edited material, you should be using AAF instead. Using AAF with Nucoda allows an easy round-tripping with MFX, if needed.

    Which is all splendid, but since pretty much every editing system writes its own little quirks into an edl these days, I would argue there is such a thing as an Avid edl.

    However, none of that is related to my question, which is that when a job comes in that is an edl and a 3 disks full of R3D files, does anyone have any software that can consolidate the R3Ds down to those used in the edl?

    I use Monkey Extract. It takes XMLs (and I think EDLs too) and copies only the R3D files used in the edit.
