James Cameron has announced that he's researching ways to shoot 60fps 3D for Avatar 2. I don't know about everyone else, but the 60fps/48fps/Motion Flow thing is completely lost on me. Looks like home video to me, I think it's god-awful... I should also mention that I hate 3D.

High frame rate and 2D looks bad.

High frame rate and 3D looks good.

    End of story.

I guess you have to like 3D in the first place to like high frame rates.

You know what? At the high frame rates, you might actually like the 3D more.

But I'm sure he'll still do a 24fps 2D film print for you and others who only want to see 1/6th of the movie he made :P

We actually be shooting 48fps and 60fps for our 3D project as well on Epic/Atom rigs, will see the first shoot how it goes ;)

But I have been supportive and bad mouthed for this, now that James cameron is doing it I will not get bashed as much.. I figure he he.

Fact is that will reduce greatly Motion artifacts, and will be much easier and better on the eye and also bring cleaner detail.

But we wil do our first tests shots on Master Primes at T*1.3 ;)

There are are very few things I will become sanctimonious about.
    This is one of them.

    Fuck 3D.

I assume motion blur would be affected by this? IE, the 24 fps version might look choppy?

Perhaps I'm just being lazy and critical of 3D filmmaking but I wish it would go away.

Shooting and projecting a 4k image at 60 fps sounds enticing. I know Arri did a test like that with the Alexa. It ended up looking like HD video, so there was an apparent gamma shift of sorts.

How could Arri do a 4k 60 fps test when the Alexa doesn't shoot 4k?
